I found a couple of used canisters on eBay so I gave him the info.

Suggestion
If you check on that schematic, the Vapor Canister itself is still blacked out, meaning it's (still considered) discontinued.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2006 Cayman S
. Only had the car a couple of months and noticed 1st time I tried to refill the tank that the pump shuts off every 2 seconds! Drives me NUTS!
Took the car in for a bunch of preventative maintenance and mentioned the fuel issue. So he did some tests and thinks it's the Charcoal Canister. Problem is, he states - is that
Porsche
has discontinued that item, which my Indy Mechanic (very highly recommended in Sacramento) can't believe himself because he says the same part is used in virtually every
Boxster
,
Cayman
and
911
, minus the
GT3
and GT2 from 2005 through 2013. He has tried using a used one, but it was broken, so he's doing everything he can to either fashion me one, or get a hold of a used one. So obviously I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue and had it be the charcoal canister, as well? I know based on my research in here that the corrugated vent line can get kinked, but after I mentioned that, he says that is not the issue. So I'm without my
Cayman
now for 3 weeks and counting. Would love to know if anyone else had this problem and what the final cure was? Thanks in advance!
Eric
You really might want to read:
Fuel Filling!!!
There are several cures mentioned - and the vent line may not look kinked - but apparently installed it can be kinked. It's probably cheap - I'd just replace it.
I'm leaving it up to the Mechanic/Tech. It's quite frustrating though to hear that he thinks it's the charcoal canister and now (he) can't get one? He is just as confused as I stated above, it's the same part used in 100's of thousands of Porsches so why would they discontinue that part? I have to trust him, as the shop has been in business for over 45 years and they are considered one of - if not THE - best Indy place to take Porsches in the area. He's even tried to make one for me, but hasn't had success yet.
May not be any help. I’ve found that problem at some stations and not others. I always attributed it to the station and the angle of the fuel intake.

Interesting - when I found this they listed 2 in stock - now out of stock. Very strange.
I'd also consider doing this before the canister:

Thanks, Don!
Yes, I see that (no longer available). I think that's the issue he's having. The Dealer he works with for parts said the same thing - it's been discontinued. He said a used one would run about $250... I dunno. He's trying to 'make one' for me but hasn't had success yet. He said they did a test by pushing air though it and it's completely clogged. I have also read on another thread about this issue that over filling at the gas station can cause this issue(?) But why in the world would
Porsche
discontinue a part that is used so widely in their vehicles? Strange indeed. And frustrating. I want my car back, and he wants to give me my car back, but wants to make sure I don't have any issues.
I have the same problem (also in California). The cure for me is to hold the pump at an angle while filling. That leaves a small gap between the neck and the rubber seal around the nozzle. Apparently that prevents a vacuum from forming which shuts off the pump.
My car has the same issue at the pump. If I hold the pump handle upside down as recommended by some on this site, it works! As for parts being discontinued. I needed a positive battery cable for my 07
Cayman
. My mech looked all over finally contacting
Porsche
US. They said the part has been discontinued and that there was a modified version that was 6 months back ordered (none avail, even in Germany). I found one at a
Porsche
salvage yard. I find this ironic with
Porsche
claiming they can supply parts for their earliest classic models!!!
I found a couple of used canisters on eBay so I gave him the info. Hoping he can find one that works well. Just to make sure, he disconnected it and said it took $12 of gas, no problem at all. So we're confident it is the charcoal canister. I guess I can be patient, especially since the State is on fire, anyway. I mean, at this point, where would I go (for a drive)??
If you check on that schematic, the Vapor Canister itself is still blacked out, meaning it's (still considered) discontinued. This is the part my Tech is looking for and so far no luck on a new one.
I'm hoping a used one will work. Will update if/when I can get my car back... Thank you for that update, though! This is one of my concerns - that perhaps
Porsche
have simply changed the part number.
What about one of these?

The vapor canister is in the frunk under the CD changer. It's easy to get to but has some quick disconnect fittings underneath that are tricky to undo.
I want to make sure it's my problem before taking it off, though.
