Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all,my 2000 C4 has recently had the problem of the ABS and TC lights coming on,first port of call will be the MAF sensor.Looked at removing it tonight and found that the screws aren't of the torx type but some sort of security screw, can anyone tell me what type they are and who would supply a bit for them, thanks for any help.

POST 2Original post

Hi, They are security torx screws search eBay should be plenty for sale or your local car parts shop. I had the same problem with my c4 last year and a replacement maf was the cure. I bought from eurocarparts, much cheaper than opc. Jetbox

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah,I've found the bits,I'll try cleaning it first, cheapskate that I am and then take it from there. Thanks for the reply,I appreciate it.

POST 4Original post

I know you probably know but careful what you clean it with.[ ]

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was thinking of switch cleaner, would that be ok?

POST 6Original post

Personal I use Switch cleaner, Carb cleaner, Brake cleaner or Isopropanol. However some insist on Maf cleaner that is available in cans, I fail to see how it can differ from the above. I have also never damaged a MAF using any of the above. Sorry if I sit on the fence, But MAF sensors aint cheap!. LOL.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Switch cleaner it is then.If it fails miserably you'll be the first to know.

POST 8Original post

Are you sure switch cleaner doesn't have a lubricant in it? Best check first.

POST 9Original post

Yep, Some switch cleaner is cleaner & Lube and some is just cleaner yes. But it says on the label so read it first.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've got brake cleaner, carb cleaner and switch cleaner,I've never seen MAF cleaner.I suppose carb cleaner would be safest,as you say, switch cleaner may have some lube trace in it.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, any chance you could come round and do the job, you've sorted everything else.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for your help,I've got everything ready and I'll do it this weekend,I'll let you know the outcome.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well the MAF cleaner didn't turn up so I used carb cleaner, been out for a half hour run and all seems ok,hopefully that's it.
