This is not a probability of success.

I had the same question the other week (I found the same on my car when I was replacing the variocam actuator) and yes it seems that Porsche did fit an unconnected cam sensor to ROW cars instead of a blank..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have '99 C4 (Tip). Previously I had an issue with AOS so looks like the breather vent valve (on bank 2) and the breather hose is sweating oil because of that. But now the question - I started to clean that area but noticed that I have that open socket on bank 2 - it's that cam position sensor but now the question is as I have read from here and there that only US models have that sensor on bank 1 and 2 - ROW models have that only on bank 1. Now the question is am I missing some cable here or is it really so that ROW models have that only on bank 1. If that is the case then is it really Porsche's "official" solution to put the sensor on bank 2 in EU models but not to connect that? Could someone take a look at what you have - it's a bit tricky position where that valve and sensor are on bank 2, just behind the engine support / big cooling pipe and that vertical power steering line.

I had the same question the other week (I found the same on my car when I was replacing the variocam actuator) and yes it seems that Porsche did fit an unconnected cam sensor to ROW cars instead of a blank.. Consider it a spare?

Eh, great idea - although they should have put a cap on that electrical connection - now it's been collecting sand and dust for 20y....
