Late last night after closing the back hatch, I noticed the rubber seal/ weather striping that attaches to the rear edge of the roof is peeling away from the drivers side edge of the roof when the hatch is closed, now leaving a good 6 inch hole for water and other elements to
seep in through there.
Unfortunately the shop/ and or dealer are closed for the weekend.
Any advice on what to use in order to re- seal that piece of rubber to the roof to form the seal between where the rear hatch and roof meet?
Thanks in advance,
Brian
Duct Tape. The silver color with a black top is stunning
(Just kidding)
Funny you should say that, as for a quick fix I did use a few pieces of Duct tape to temopariarly hold it in place.
Obviously I need a more permanent fix as we are in for a rainy weekend here in Mi.
Has anyone else had this type of experience? Granted I did purchase my vehicle used, although I and my family members have owned several
BMW
's, Mercedes, Audi's and other relatively high end European automobiles and granted
Porsche
's driving characteristics far exceed the afore mentioned brands, that being said some of the interior trim and detail pieces seem somewhat cheap and easily damageable in comparison.
Perhaps I am just having poor luck with particular vehicle.
Not sure of the location and how it is attached..
Some of these gaskets fit in groves..but if it is a flat surface area, 3M contact weather strip adhesive can be found at the auto store.
I have also noticed the cheapness of the plastics in these cars.
Black outside molding tends to whiten, rubber seals tend to shrink, plastics tend to sun distort, nobs are soft touch..but not robust.
I think that the europeans have had a green initiative (for a long time)with recyclability of plastics. And the auto industry is under a lot of pressure to make a large portion of these vehicles recyclable.
Too bad they (rubber, plastics) are not robust..and may disintegrate to the ground...before we are done driving them..
Touché Mick and thanks for the advice on the 3M weather strip adhesive.
The sides fit or snap int groves and then the rubber attaches to the flat surface of the edge of the roof line between the hatch and the roof line.
I think
Porsche
cut a lot of expense on interior materials and fittings to compensate for the drive train and suspension components that make these cars so wonderful to drive. Really too bad that you need to spend $10-20,000 for a decent Interior and even then there's parts such as this that would come standard on a fully loaded vehicle.
My only real criticism of
Porsche
.
Anyone who may come across this thread be advised DO NOT USE THE 3M ADHESIVE COMPOUND. It caused big problems for me that are currently being resolved. Get some 2 sided tape and then visit your local trim guy, dealer or Indy.
Nothing is waterproof on a car but the tires and windows.
I just noticed the same thing. 6 inches on driver side roof where rubber seal has pealed away from roof and leaves a gap where the rear hatch seals with the roof.
Always find problems on a Friday night..... after everyone is closed and gone home for the day at my dealers repair department. Anyone else had this problem? How did the dealer fix it?
Old post but I'll respond for future members....I just saw the same problem this weekend. Dove into the illustrated parts and found the replacement part I (and you) need. Its 987-512-111-00-01C. I ordered one for $65 from Delawareporscheparts.com. I'll let all know how the install went. It appears its held in with 2 (possibly 4) clamps.
