Hi, I am fully aware that this swap has been done/documented before but I never really found a 100% clear yes/no or how-to-install when it comes to fitment and installing more recent OEM seats in a 996.
I am looking for a nice replacement for my current stock Euro 996 Turbo "comfort" seats, which I find pretty uncomfortable on longer drives.
Would like to be seated a little bit lower and the bolsters could be a little wider for my frame, so my back would be more IN the seat iso against the bolsters.
My current seats (see below) have heating, memory and two electric buttons: one for up-down and front-back, and one button to recline but no lumbar:

I don't want to run in to fitment problems or other snags with frames, or having to fabricate a lot of metal/wiring if not needed, that is why I am giving OEM a try first.

Which of these two seats would be the most straightforward and uncomplicated swap with my car, based on work required to get all the electric controls to function without any issues?
To retain heated seats would be great, memory as well but not paramount.
Any mods needed for brackets, runners etc?

I upgraded to a pair of 997 GT3 factory sport seats. I absolutely love them. I went and sat in them at the dealer, before I purchased them. I bought them from a fellow Rennlist member (thanks again Mooty).
They fit perfectly, even though I have a Tequipment roll bar. I rebuilt my car after a dashboard fire. Since I had to extensively rewire my car, I simply cut both connectors and spliced the powered wire and the ground wire. I installed them over 15 years ago.
The passenger airbag had deployed, when I bought the seats. I cut it out and epoxied the cover back on. The driver's seat still had a functioning airbag. Make sure you follow the connectors back to the airbag and do not accidentally connect power to the airbag...it will ruin your day.
That's good to know. I think most often people just splice their own but an adapter might be good. I have a set of 991 seats with heating and cooling and was thinking about installing them if I get tired of my GT3 seats, which doesn't seem to be happening. They're pretty dang comfortable.
Anyway , It seems like bolting the 991 seats in is no problem it's just the wiring that needs to be sorted.
I literally finished the install of 997/987 (similar to the turbo ones you posted) seats into my 996 today it is a pretty easy swap if you are comfortable doing some moderate wiring splicing, retrofitting. Feel free to dm with questions.
996 turbo seats (aka sports seats) will increase the impression of sitting against as opposed to in the seat due to the convex shoulder bolsters.
997 sports seats, however will be an improvement in this respect.
I had manual 997 Sport seats in my 996. The swap was extremely straightforward. There's 1 power wire, 1 connector for the airbag sensor, and they bolt right in. Major upgrade in comfort and support. Only eccentricity is they are taller than the 996 seats so they will hit the roof when folded forward.

My current 996 Comfort seats have
heating, memory and two electric levers: one for up-down/front-back, and one lever to recline but no lumbar.
The Boxster Sportseats (see below) I found also have heating and two levers
and
one handle in the front: the handle seems to operate front/back over the sliders.
Is one electric lever for reclining the seat back and the other lever for up/down travel?
Are these two seat types with their functionalities interchangeable, and will that be a straightforward plug and play swap or is there still (electric/wiring) tinkering to be done?
