Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

This last month, one indy quoted me only £18 less than OPC Chester for a Minor Service and Brake Fluid change on a 996 Turbo.
Leading evidence: 'Replace on a 996 turbo' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). My experience is that those OPC labour rates are not applied to "modern classics" and they use a computer-generated menu pricing for older modern classics.

I wouldn't rule out using OPC for both the latter.

It just takes a guy who knows how to use a PIWIS 5-10 minutes.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all
Just thought I'd share this with you.. I've had cruise control fitted and need to get the software activated..
So I have called two local Indys and my nearest OPC to ask if they can do it and to get a price for the job
The first place I tried is a one man band ex OPC technician based in Redditch Worcestershire £90 inc vat (an hours labour apparently)
The second is a usual size set up on an industrial estate just outside Cheltenham Gloucestershire £60 inc vat (no time scale quoted)
I have just spoken to OPC Tewkesbury (Dick Lovett's) and have been quoted £75 inc vat (30mins labour)
Baring in mind the vast difference in the overhead between an OPC and an independent I'm totally staggered as to where some of these indy's get there prices from..
As for me I'm off to Tewkesbury...
OPC will be after the work, seeing as they have no cars to sell.
A nice reception at Stockport OPC recently when buying parts for a 996, was made to feel welcome and had a good chat with senior salesman.
Last time I went to Wilmslow I might has well have walked dogshit in.
Yes I know.. But re the cost I can empathise with the OPC's reason for the price they charge for ticking that box far more than the other dreamers I called..
Not sure how close you are to Reading but I have been to Northway multiple times for various coding bits, enabling cruise control, enabling navigation on my instrument cluster for the PCCM+ among other little coding things. Very friendly and only cost £20 each time I went. It just takes a guy who knows how to use a PIWIS 5-10 minutes.
Same situation for me last year, retrofitted the cruise stalks and wiring and needed it coding. The same guy who sold me the wiring kit coded it for me. He charged £25 from memory and it was done in 5-10 minutes.... I wonder what you get for the other 50 minutes of labour? :floor:
There is HUGE variation in prices between Indys up here in the North West. This last month, one indy quoted me only £18 less than OPC Chester for a Minor Service and Brake Fluid change on a 996 Turbo.
Last year, I drew up a spreadsheet comparing OPC's and Indys within a 50 mile radius and was amazed at the ridiculous level of charges for servicing at indys compared to OPC's.
Within OPC there is also a lot of variation but less so than across indys. Indy labour rates vary tremendously from £65/hr to £90/hr + VAT.
Indy quoted book times vary. Some add on a margin due to age of vehicle. Expertise is consistent across Indys and OPC in my experience.
The message? Shop around, ask for labour rates and time for the job. Caveat emptor...
Indy claims and marketing hype of "main dealer servicing at half main dealer prices" is rarely the case and is just a marketing over-hacked cliche.
My experience is that those OPC labour rates are not applied to "modern classics" and they use a computer-generated menu pricing for older modern classics. Sadly, these new prices are no longer competitive against the fixed menu pricing that operated until end of 2019. OPC cite increase in parts and oil prices but such increases apply to indys, and their increases are nowhere on a scale that OPC has applied. In fact OPC have shot themselves in the foot with this crazy strategy since many older cars on their ramps reveal extra advisory work probably more so than the newer models.
OPC still remain competitive for parts pricing and bespoke quotes for ad hoc work. I wouldn't rule out using OPC for both the latter. Servicing, yes. Simply stupid prices being quoted ever since they dropped the fixed price servicing at the end of 2019.
Funny enough I received the same treatment. I may have made the mistake of mentioning I was a 'chum' of Spongebob that could have got me barred from Wilmslow
Stockport got my business for the service on the GT4 :thumb:
