Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The engine guy said he used a more robust IMS bearing from Porsche and told us not to change that to LNE or he would not honor the warranty, so I left it in.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a friend's 996 in my garage. He complained about the car not running well, although he could not articulate it well. So, I took it drove it around and did not find it to be grossly out of specs. However, I plugged in my Durametric and found deviation to be 5.5 degrees out on bank1 and 3.5 degrees out on bank 2. That bank 1 is borderline on out of specs. For giggles, I activated the cam adjustment command and the car stalls immediately. Hm, I thought it would continue to run, although poorly. Am I wrong? I admit to not having a load of experience on the Durametric. I always found the program to be unstable and not friendly on my PC laptop. I prefer my Launch, but this morning the Launch does not support those functions on this car.

POST 2Original post

Most likely the cam pads need replaced and possible the seals on the actuators r bad. U should be able to see "actual cam value" and when u rev over 3500 it should jump on both banks

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's a Variocam PLus so no cam pads. More likely the chains have stretched, or the tensioners are weak. It was a rebuilt engine from an outfit in FL that we bought and installed eight years ago. The engine guy said he used a more robust IMS bearing from Porsche and told us not to change that to LNE or he would not honor the warranty, so I left it in. I don't know what IMS bearing is in it now. I am pulling the engine, inspect the chains, and redo the cam timing to take up any slack. Also, I will update the IMS ... when I figure out what's in it.

POST 4Original post

Well in my defense i assumed it was a 5 chain since u didnt state the year .
