Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi to all, this is my first post in this forum. I'm looking forward to buy a 911 CS (first Porsche). I live in Lima Peru, so these kind of cars are kind of rare and the people who are into cars know who has wich car. Any way, I went to Porsche's dealer and saw a 1998 C4 automatic. I'm a big fan of manual gearboxes but since I was already there I decided to go for a small test drive. Here comes my question, when I selected "D", the car made a weird noise and the brake pedal felt a bit strange. Put park again and selected "D" and it made the same noise. The salesman said it was normal and it was "because of the brakes" :?: Is this normal? The car has only 29000 km which is about 17900 miles. Javier Velasco

POST 2Original post

You can hear the brakes bite when you select D, especially if the engine is cold. Under normal temperature it starts in 2nd, but when cold it starts in 1 (to heat up cats quicker). The noise comes from the front end and you'll hear the same noise when coming to a stop down a hill (just before brakes have fully bitten). It's hard to describe, but sounds like a creaking noise. Other than that the tip doesn't make any noise. If you want a manual, I suggest you wait until one comes up. Also try and stretch to the clear light 99 model.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks GD for the answer. There is also a 1999 black 996 with the GT2 bumpers and wing kit, with a Tubi exhaust, xenon lights and a radio with a screen (which I hate). Manual tranny and the asking price is around USD 45,000, although it's an american version with 20k in it.
