I want SPASM on a 991.2 C4. Purely for the look. I don't want or need the S. ...and I am not paying another $14k for a little more boost on the same displacement engine just so I can have the option to get SPASM.
I know SPASM is not available on the configurator for the Base
911s
. That's probably a marketing ploy to entice buyers to step up to the S which has a much higher profit margin.
However, do you think
Porsche
Exclusive or some other part of PCNA can special order this for a customer.
I can't imagine that there is a technical reason why SPASM can't be checked off in the Factory work order and added to a Base car.
Do you guys think this is possible? Has anybody ever done this?
I also don't want to go after market or get my dealer to add it on later. I want it on the Monroney (I am funny that way)
The closest I have been to working outside of the process is to get my order unlocked (after it locked for a European Delivery) to add SC. My dealer could not do it but PCNA did it for me.
Sorry if this isn't helpful, but I would be extremely surprised if they did that. As you mentioned, it's a marketing gimmick to entice buyers to step up.
The base
Carrera
is quite quick and has the same motor and displacement as the S, which was not the case in the past, so I imagine
Porsche
is cautiously protecting its precious cash cow from people who think the S is just some extra boost and different exhaust placement.
Even if they did a one-off for you, are you willing to pay what that might cost?
All that possibly-useless conjecture aside, it never hurts to ask!
To the contrary, I disagree.
First, they are not protecting their cash cow. In fact, they purposely decreased the performance gap between the base and S to push people to buy base cars vs S cars to reduce they overall VAG carbon footprint (this was in the literature somewhere). The overall emissions footprint is not a joking matter and they are taking this seriously or within two years there will be hefty fines.
Second, and a mechanical reason, just an example, we know all the 3.4/3.8/4.2 NA engines were all the same engine with different displacement. The 3.4 did not come with valves in the exhaust while the 3.8 did. If you bought a base car without PSE, it cost more to get PSE retrofitted because they had to add the valves whereas the S came with the valves OEM. Now I don't know the technical details for SPASM if there is a mechanical reason. But it wouldn't surprise me if they did something to reduce costs to make it difficult.
I doubt Porsche Exclusive will do a thing but email them and ask. Although Melissa Witek is gone or on the way out so who knows who is running it Atlanta now.
If u only want it lower, u could just get an
X73
suspension or a set of different coilovers.
