Firstly, it wasn't a problem when the car had it's warranty renewed before, however, under the new warranty, I need to get these items removed at my own cost, somewhere else and then put back through the testing.

One option that isn't on the cards is to run the car without warranty, not with the M96 engine reliability problem.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Booked my car in today for the new bumper to bumper warranty into a new OPC. I've dealt with the guys before and the service is at their usual excellent standard. The car passed it's extension check no problem, but they cannot offer me a new warranty for the following reasons: 1. Non-standard Bluetooth Parrot kit 2. Non-standard ParkAssist 3. Non-standard radar detectors Now, I'm not bothered about (3), because I don't use them, but I am absolutely hopping mad about 1) and 2). Firstly, it wasn't a problem when the car had it's warranty renewed before, however, under the new warranty, I need to get these items removed at my own cost, somewhere else and then put back through the testing. Secondly, it wasn't a problem when Porsche phoned in 2003 to say that (after waiting for 12 months), I could take delivery of a Seal Grey Tiptronic Targa 2 months early. Someone else had ordered something similar, but had pulled out at the last minute. Great, we thought, only problem was that the car didn't have ParkAssist. No problem, Porsche explained, take it down to a local dealer they recommend (fit trackers as well) and have an aftermarket item fitted. As everyone is aware, only on the 2008 facelift 997 model is it possible to have a Bluetooth module fitted. If the Porsche OEM car radio provides a phone input, why can't it be used? This hasn't been a problem for 4 years and then, when I go to get the new bumper to bumper cover, all of a sudden it is. Despite the scare mongering of this new warranty, I didn't think I'd be affected, but clearly I am. Porsche Customer Services are now involved, but I've already been warned that this is really only a case of letting them know of the problem, rather than fixing it. The reality is, I'm starting to think that Porsche are not interested in their used car market. Not sure what to do now really. Does anyone have a contact is Porsche CS that they have specifically dealt with on this issue? One option that isn't on the cards is to run the car without warranty, not with the M96 engine reliability problem. As I've said previously, I work at a very successful company (despite downturn) and the car park is absolutely rammed with 997s and 996s. All of which have had Bluetooth Parrot's fitted, because it's company policy. Shambles really and very poorly thought out and introduced.

POST 2Original post

Tell them that you won't make a claim on these items. I was told that I could not extend the warranty on mine due to the Kenwood unit. OK I said I will take the car elsewhere, They relented and warrantied the car. (6 weeks later I had £4k of warranty work done  )

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Thanks for that. Do you know how I actually go about doing that? Presumably that means no hi-fi cover, no ParkAssist and no radar detector, which is what I'd expect anyway (with the exception of the hi-fi) and have no problem doing. They are playing the card about damage to the internal electrics.

POST 4Original post

I just spoke to the guys in the Service Department and they saw sense. I guess you will need to take it up with PCGB in Reading if you have no joy. FWIW I dealt with OPC Burgess Hill.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Burgess Hill are very good. Looks like I won't be able to get the warranty. Do you know what other option I have for warranty? Bearing in mind I live in Surrey, so Hartech isn't an issue.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

PS - Can someone please PM me Andy Goss' email address? I doubt anything will come out of it, but the buying history from me and a family member is: 944 968 964 993 986 996 997 All from Porsche main dealer network, most of them from new. No more business from us unless resolved, which I very much doubt. The icing on the cake will be the charge for the 111 point check, that it's already had. Thanks.
