I've been studying the photos from the UK pub auto express, the one that has the shots of the next 911 stuck in the snow. I wasn't sure the first time I saw it, so went through each photo slowly. The side intakes in front of the hind wheels are painted on. As you look carefully, you see they have no depth. It's a trompe-le-oi kind of thing. I hope I spelled that correctly.
OR is it all a dream?

Still camouflaged but looks nice... my interest is the mechanical side of the 991 and its interior. I believe the intakes are fake as per all the shots I saw previously.
Porsche could be doing radical changes to its production line. The exterior is the least of my concerns at this stage.
Yet, thank you for the pictures... it looks nice!
Your observation seems to be right on. If that's intended to actually disguise something they could use our help.
"Trompe l'oeil"
And a good example of it at that. Well spotted. Just trying to make it look like a Turbo...throw automotive journos off the scent.
I found a video of this car. Decent 480 p quality. Sometimes the intakes appear to be real, then you'll see a sequence where you clearly see that they are painted on, with no real depth. At 1:22 of the sequence, I think that's a Boxter in front of the 911. If it is, it's much larger than previously.

The front headlights seem flatter or a little bit more setback or maybe the bumper is more extended.
Maybe the fake scoops are there to disguise the lengthened wheelbase? Isn't the part of the car from the rear of the door to the front of the rear fender longer?
This is to comply with new European safety standards.
New daylight photos. Looks like the same car pretty much. You can see the painted on intakes on the flanks much clearer now

Porsche always does that btw... On all previous 911 mules as well!
