Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had to install a new battery on my 1999 996. After the battery change the odometer is maxed out at 999,999 miles, The trip odometer works. Also the digital speedometer read out is in KM instead of miles. Has anybody seen and fixed this before. I did a search, tons of info on Odometers but I could not find anything regarding this issue. Thanks

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Over on the Rennlist a guy had the same issue with a 99 Boxster, A mechanic provided the fix, see below. It works Disconnect the negative cable with the key in the ignition. Turn key to position 1, let the car sit long enough to bleed off any power, then turn key to off position. Then hook up negative cable.

POST 3Original post

Can anyone comment on whether this weirdness could have been prevented with a Powerbuilt 648539 Computer Memory Keeper? I've never used one in all my years of vehicle ownership but from all I read it seems the 911 electronics are hypersensitive.

POST 4Original post

Just drive it one mile and you have a new car!! 😀
