When I drove the car this winter (on different winters that were purchased used), the car seems to feel like the back end follows the ruts in the road.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got new tires when I bought my car last year. I always do an alignment when I get new tires. Summer the car drives like normal... When I drove the car this winter (on different winters that were purchased used), the car seems to feel like the back end follows the ruts in the road. The rear end seems to wander a bit. It's a little unnerving at times, but not that big of a deal... I put my summers back on probably a week or two too early here in MN. They are wide 295's and have a year of wear on them. Slightly more worn on the inside which I hear is common with these cars. Last week I had no choice but to drive 30 miles home in the sleet. I knew it was gonna be less than ideal with wide summer tires on snow. But it scared the crap outta me! The rear end wandered all over in the ruts on the freeway and this was just a light sleet on top of clean & warm freeway. I was scared that one wrong move might cause the back end to slide out and spin me. Is this normal for the rear to wander in bad weather? Can anyone shed light on this for me? It is literally the only thing that gives me hesitation about driving this car everyday everywhere.

POST 2Original post

There r 2 adjustments in the rear that r done through eccentric bolts. The lower control arm and the toe link, both are at the connection to sub frame. Im betting one has "slipped" and the rear is no longer in spec. Its not uncommon as the sub frame is aluminum and sometimes these adjustments r set in one position for so long they no longer like to stay locked in a different spot. Also its important that the alignmemt guy actually torques the bolts correctly. The toe links can be replaced with adjustable units and the eccentric can be eliminated if it becomes a bigger issue.

OP - Cold, hard summer tires at any pressure are ice skates. Glad you didn’t swap ends!
