Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Naturally I am planning to leave in one week for the PCA Escape- a 3k mile road trip- so I'd like to get this resolved before beginning that drive.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My '99 Carrera recently threw a CEL with error code P0453, Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch High. I replaced the gas cap, and that had no effect. I don't hear any noises like it's a venting issue as described in the 101 book. How can I troubleshoot this? Naturally I am planning to leave in one week for the PCA Escape- a 3k mile road trip- so I'd like to get this resolved before beginning that drive. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Yes, P0453 indicates that the pressure sensor is reading above its limit, which is usually a wiring short in the harness. Check your wiring from the sensor to the DME for a short to B+.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. What are the potential consequences of ignoring this until after my trip? I don't think I'll have time to dig into this before we're scheduled to leave on the road trip.

POST 4Original post

I would not ignore it. 3K miles makes for a long walk.
