Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
I thought it was the electric motors for both seats.
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
New keys come with these codes on the tag, as Damien says, and the codes are entered into the control module by hand using a PIWIS or PST2 Diagnostic tester.
Leading evidence: 'electric motors' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'electric motors' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use piwis or pst2 diagnostic tester' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

cheers guys but been told by opc that as well as needing all paperwork/codes etc from new, you can't use US keys cos of different frequencys or someting.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hi, looking for a spare key for my 04 996. Aside from keeping an eye on ebay or paying £200+ at the OPC, anyone got any ideas - or even a spare for sale (tho appreciate it will have to be re-coded at the OPC)?? Cheers!
These any good?

cheers maxie, hadn't seen those cos the seller didn't use 911 or 996 in his description. to be honest, don't know if they're any good? my existing key is the old shape with 2 remote ops not 3. does that make any difference, don't know?? can anyone advise?? cheers
Don't know if a 3-button remote fob will work in place of a 2 button one but I guess if you are going to get it re-programmed anyway, just ask an OPC who would be able to advise. Otherwise go for the blank key blade and look for a cover (I saw those on eBay too).

Unless you get the barcode and sticker that came with the key, that one on eBay would be useless. You need the codes to program the alarm control unit.
If you just need a spare for emergencies, you can get a non-remote "service" key from an OPC, but it will still need the control module to be programmed. They can cut the key from your VIN, and the programming takes about 10 minutes. About £80 all-in, as I recall.
The remote code and immobiliser transponder codes are stored in the alarm control module under the passenger seat. New keys come with these codes on the tag, as Damien says, and the codes are entered into the control module by hand using a PIWIS or PST2 Diagnostic tester. If you don't have the key code, you are stuffed.
Porsche do not keep records of the key codes. They only keep the teaching code, immobiliser code, and DME programming codes.
cheers guys but been told by opc that as well as needing all paperwork/codes etc from new, you can't use US keys cos of different frequencys or someting. each avenue i explore seems to end up back at the OPC paying £200!!
used transponder and key blank - any use?
Fraserb
did you ever get your key without paying the £200?
I have bought a second hand transponder and key blank so now need blank cutting and the transponder programming somehow.
I also have an original transponder key that works find.
Whats the best way forward?
thanks
Keith
Hello
You can program the key to start the car but as previously said with out the long number which is key specific you cant get the remote locking part working.
