Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Whilst I am on I filled the fuel tank and am down to 1/4 remaining having covered only 200 miles!!

Fuel comsumption wise you should reset the mileometer (see manual - easy to do) and run the car for a few days or ideally weeks.

Fuel grades: a bit cynical about this issue; yes the Super resists knock & allows the engine to run with slightly advanced timing but I'm buggered if I can feel the difference or see improved economy.

It doesn't matter any way, my car only uses twice as many litres of fuel than a diesel, it makes a nicer sound and the biggest cost will still be depreciation.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

gremlins/teething problems with my new toy (C2 manual 3.4 yr 2000)... steering wheel will not adjust (up/down or fore/aft). Is this because it has not been moved in years and needs a bit of forceful encouragement?
Whilst I am on I filled the fuel tank and am down to 1/4 remaining having covered only 200 miles!! Is this within normal parameters? (quickly driven but not hard, cruise at 85-ish)
Thank you in anticipation
:welcome:
have you released the lever at the bottom of the steering wheel before trying to move it? Mine moves pretty easily once that's done.
As to fuel consumption, sounds about right to me!
Fuel comsumption wise you should reset the mileometer (see manual - easy to do) and run the car for a few days or ideally weeks. Then see what it tells you the mpg is. In town it will be thirsty but on the open road pretty good. My combined mpg is around 25. Good mix of town driving and motorway.
Pretty happy with that. A full tank tends to make the computer predict 280 - 360 miles to next refill depending on how Ive been driving prior to filling up.
City driving all the time is bound to butcher fuel consumption figures. Cue all the bearded ones telling you the car you drive is unnecessary and unsuitable.
Happily I have a good mix of town and open road and find the overall consumption only slightly down on my Audi A3 2.0T
Oh dear... my wife does not have a beard but she does not need to find out that I got only 21.9mpg to the first tankful... I told her we would see 25mpg bearing in mind that we got 27mpg out of the old Boxster S. This is a surprise as the driving style/speeds etc. are as for Boxster, the engine is only 200cc more & the car only slightly heavier. It does, however, pull a lot stronger at the higher end of its rev range & I guess simple physics dictates that more fuel is being pumped through the engine. Ah well, 22mpg is only slightly less than 25 and I'm not religious anyway
My daily runabout has a 130bhp TDI VW engine in a small car. I'll leave you to work out which car it is as I'm slightly embarrassed. Clue: it's not a VW. Loads of torque though and plenty fast for whizzing around Manchester city centre. I confessed which car it is on a different thread so if you consider yourself a Poirot then should be easy to find out. My point to all this is that I get on average 54mpg with this car and as I use this car a bit more than my 997 I reckon my combined fuel is >40mpg so I consider my overall driving to be 'efficient'.

My C4 used to average at about 24 mpg, but recently it has dropped to about 22... Could be because I haven't done so many long distance runs of late :?:
I did have a 500 mile round trip to Plymouth this week and thought I might see a better average, but it was still only 25 mpg for the whole trip - whereas I'm more used to this:
Phuk me! 80-odd mph average over three hundred odd miles; this can't have been achieved on the UK mainland!! You must have maintained 100mph plus cruising speed!
I have had a number of cars with computers which all calculated the fuel consumption in a wildly optimistic manner. I reckon the manufacturer has a ***** loop included in the algorithm to allow owners to feel good about their being kind to the environment. I'll wager if you calculate your actual fuel useage it will be a good deal less than the boast from the car's computer.
It doesn't matter any way, my car only uses twice as many litres of fuel than a diesel, it makes a nicer sound and the biggest cost will still be depreciation. plus I only have a few more decades to enjoy anyway...
Fuel grades: a bit cynical about this issue; yes the Super resists knock & allows the engine to run with slightly advanced timing but I'm buggered if I can feel the difference or see improved economy. Even if improved economy was seen as some claim I doubt it would be anywhere near the 10% increase which would reflect the extra cost. Can I feel an extra, say, 5bhp over 290-ish? Yeah, like I can feel a pea under my matress...
