I've been considering a Maval unit that FCP sells, but also have my eye on a few used units on eBay with supposedly 60k ish miles on them.

My rack is in need of replacement and have read mixed opinions regarding non-OEM reman units, and folks suggesting to just taking a chance with a used unit. I've been considering a Maval unit that FCP sells, but also have my eye on a few used units on eBay with supposedly 60k ish miles on them. My car only has 70k and already leaking pretty bad, so not feeling too good about getting a rack with that type of mileage. Wondering if anyone has any feedback/experience with the Maval units, or if I should just bite the bullet and get a reman OEM unit.

A little odd that its leaking this early. My rack has over 200k on it. I did buy a reman when i did my rebuild but it only lasted 3 days. I would get a good used one as earpy failures r not common.

I agree with you in regards to it seeming pretty early to have a bad rack, and your experience doesn't make me feel very confident with getting a reman unit since I'm paying to have it done. I may considering taking my chances with a used rack.

I picked up a rack from a wrecked car with under 9500 miles on it. (verified using the VIN, Carfax, and previous BaT auction. Even though it appeared fine, I went ahead and replaced the grease, inner tie rod and boots and plugged the holes, wrapped in plastic, and boxed on my shelf. I now have a self-rebuilt rack in case I ever need one. If you look for used ones check the mileage closely. I bought several parts from the same car.

Most of my used parts have come from Specialized German. ( https://specializedgerman.com/porsche-parts/ ) I have also purchased from DC Auto in NC ( https://www.dcauto.com/models/8?year=2002 ) About 30% of my 500+ spare parts are used.
