Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Don't just guess and change the sensor ...get it plugged into a dealer/indy porsche tester and get it diagnosed correctly or you will find out after not too long you have spent a small fortune and not fixed anything...
Hi
Just bought a 2000 996 Carrera & am really pleased, however contrary to owner's manual instructions the car needs throttle to start (cold or warm). I have owned a Boxster which would start sans throttle, as I believe the 996 should... any ideas
thank you
Hello
It does not need the throttle pedal to start there is something wrong with yours.... get it checked out...it may need the throttle body cleaning out as it maybe gummed up...just athought but its a start.

My car was a bit sluggish to start before, and often seemed to start better when i prodded the throttle, however i gave it a thorough charge overnight, and seems better, it had sat for 6 months without use, which was damaging to battery.

Change the sensor in the thermo-stat housing. (Engine management temprature sensor)
It informs the ECU what temprature the engine is at and alters the fuelling accordingly. Kinda like pulling a choke on a carburettered car.
Not usually expensive, try Euro car parts or similar, id say about £10 - £15 tops.

The price of an EMTS is less than the price to even open the door at OPC

Thermostat housing, if I am right is located at the very rear of the car.
Instructions:
Stand at rear of car, get down on knees, lean head to off side (UK drivers) rear, reach under bumper with your right hand approx 3" right of the number plate. You should see a 5" tall by say 2" wide alloy housing. The sensor which looks like a 22mm brass nut with 2 wires coming off it looks like the Engine Management Temp. Sensor to me, this is screwed into that housing.
Get this info confirmed though.
