Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause

If it's coming from the front on full steering lock at low speed, I would suspect an outer front CV joint.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I seem to get a strange ticking noise when steering at or close to full lock whilst the car is moving. It doesn't happen when the car is stationary, even when I turn the wheel from lock to lock. Can anyone shed any light on this, please? Cheers, Mark.

POST 2Original post

Since your 911 is 4-wheel drive, the ticking could be coming from a worn CV (constant velocity) joint on one of the front drive shafts.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Nick. Is this the general consensus or are there any other possible suspects? Cheers Mark.

POST 4Original post

Can you isolate where the 'ticking' noise is coming from - front or rear of car? If it's coming from the front on full steering lock at low speed, I would suspect an outer front CV joint. The rubber boot (looks like a bellow) may have split or become unclipped causing the lubricant to escape. This would allow the CV joint to dry out internally and become noisey (and worn). The grease is usually a molybendum type, although I can't vouch for what Porsche may use.
