Suggestion

The first thing I'd do is check the fluid level, which requires doing this up on a lift with a warm transmission and a few special tools.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi everyone, I’m experiencing some troubling issues with my 2006 Porsche Boxster . Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed that the transmission seems to be slipping, especially when accelerating from a stop. It feels like there’s a momentary loss of power before the car catches up. It’s been happening more frequently, and I’m getting concerned about potential damage. Has anyone else faced this issue with their 2006 Porsche ? If so, how did you address it? I’ve read that this might be related to the transmission fluid or possibly a sign of a failing torque converter. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi Charles - a suggestion or two: Always post the year/model/engine/transmission of your car when asking tech questions. You've come pretty close - but you might consider looking at creating a "Signature" and including that info there - it will appear on every post you make. And you might visit the new member intro page - and tell us about you and your Boxster - photos are always welcomed! It can be found at: https://www.planet-9.com/forums/new_members/ OK—on to your problem. From your question, it appears nothing has been done with your transmission yet. The first thing I'd do is check the fluid level, which requires doing this up on a lift with a warm transmission and a few special tools. Based on your question, I'd suggest visiting a good independent Porsche shop. If the level is low, the next question is where the leak is. Transmissions don't consume their transmission fluid (oil)—if it's low, it's leaking. Is the car leaving little puddles about even with the rear wheels? That's a big clue for a leak. The transmissions aren't known to be troublesome, so chances are it's a leak. If it's not a leak - a fluid change might help (or might not, it's impossible to change all the fluid without rebuilding the transmission.) And if that doesn't help - I'd start looking to source a low-mileage used one. Rebuilding it would be iffy IMHO - the expertise for the ZF transmission is rare. Replacement by Porsche with a remanufactured one would exceed the value of the car. In this case - used is the way to go - a used one with the right to return it if it doesn't work correctly.
