The issue I'm running into is that it looks like you need a Thule adapter (183100) in order to fit the Thule system to the Porsche and I can't seem to find that adapter online anywhere.

Thule recommends 118cm bars, but I used 108 as I dont like overhang on the ends (and I cut 10cm off mine on the rear as that's narrower than the front).

I used the Thule 'Wingbar Evo' which are an aero dynamic shape.

Suggestion
I'm looking forward to having a roof box back on my car too, I need to haul stuff too regularly to use the 996 much but now I can make excuses.

Suggestion
From my research, the 996 & 997 use the same rack mount made by Thule.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking for a roof rack for my 996 coupe, but the only option I've seen readily available on the internet seems to be a new OEM rack through Suncoast Parts for $775 USD. I understand the Porsche tax, but that seems a bit steep when standard Thule racks sell for quite a bit cheaper on the used market. I also watched this review of OEM vs. Thule systems
You Tube
by Norwegian Car Guy and actually think the Thule system might be a better option for my purposes.

Any folks know if there are Thule roof rack systems that work well with the 996 that are easily available on the used market? Also open to any other roof rack suggestions (or even an OEM used if possible, although those seem hard to come by and it sounds like they can get a bit noisy)
I have the Thule kit and pedestals for square bars.

used it for skis and carrying a set of wheels to the track
I will sell my 3100 kit.
Sorry I thought I still had this but when I couldn't find it realized I already sold it to someone here. The crazy thing is I only paid 43 pounds from amazon UK back in 2018.
Yes, that is the Amazon UK retail price until it got discontinued. Newer kits still costs the same. Ebay roof rack seller is selling it for absurd prices.
I have the oem rack for my 996, pretty sure its made by Thule.
I have the non oem Thule rack on my Panamera. Only difference I can tell is it says Thule on the towers instead of Porsche!
Do you know if the mounting feet for your Thule rack would work with your 996? I've read you need adapters, but if not, I would just need to know what kind of mounting feet you have.
Getting under the Porsche RTS MSRP isn't guaranteed (finding parts), but I've been quietly taking names to make a batch of Yakima-specific landing pads. The rack system I designed uses Skyline towers and Jetstream bars so it's lower, more aerodynamic, and slightly wider than the RTS.
Pretty good actually! I just received two layers of rubber and rubber foam that I need to bond together before sending to the waterjet guys to make my gaskets. Once we have gaskets in hand it's another month or two until the aluminum landing pads come in from China.
I'm looking forward to having a roof box back on my car too, I need to haul stuff too regularly to use the 996 much but now I can make excuses.
I believe the Panamera 3098 could be made to work. All parts the same except the pads and the sleeve which is probably matched to the pad. The bolt carries the load, the pad keeps it straight and absorbs the moving back and forth. Maybe a little more padding on them in the back as the roof slopes down.
It's me - I cut some Yakima Jetstream bars down to 44" and attached them to Skyline towers and landing pads I designed and CNC machined. If you'd like one I have been slowly trying to satisfy
@merlot
and a few others, let me know. (Mods: Do I need to get a site sponsorship soon to say stuff like this?)
Has anyone had any thoughts about adding a roof rack to a hardtop on a cab? I have a c4s cab and bought the hardtop after the fact. Its not the original top and it isn't even the same color. All this to say, I don't mind drilling through it to mount a roof rack.
Thoughts?
Anyone that has combined Porsche OEM roofrack with Thule? I have OEM Porsche rack but cant find the mounts. Looking to either buy new ones from sun coast or getting something that could work from Thule. Happy to get any input.on this.
Went down this rabbit hole a few years ago. From my research, the 996 & 997 use the same rack mount made by Thule. You can make your own from these parts:
Make up Thule from parts:
Thule 753 feet X 2
Thule 751 XT Feet x2
Thule 3100 fitting fit (specifically for 996/997) x1
Thule 'Wingbar Evo'
Amazon prices a few years ago:
2 x Thule 753 feet $112.00 4pk
2 x Thule 751 XT feet $110.89
4 pack 1 x Thule 3100 fitting fit (specifically for the 996/997) $119.95
4pk WingBar Evo $219.00 2 bars
total $561.84, but I think you get two sets for that.
From a thread:
Its also worth noting that the Porsche supplied roof boxes are also made by Thule and you can buy them unbranded for considerably less. The one they advise for the 996/997 is a porsche branded Thule Dynamic 330 You can then go for whichever bars you prefer. I used the Thule 'Wingbar Evo' which are an aero dynamic shape. Thule recommends 118cm bars, but I used 108 as I dont like overhang on the ends (and I cut 10cm off mine on the rear as that's narrower than the front). They arent as nice as the specific Porsche bars, but they are a hella lot cheaper!
Im not sure I understand what you are saying, but I have the OEM Porsche RTS on my 996 (I bought it used and it came with everything needed to bolt to the car) and I also have the Thule FastRide bike rack and a Thule Ski Rack and they both clamp to the OEM Porsche RTS rack without any sort of additional adapters.
