Here's one for the real 987 gurus; Are the front fenders differrent between the
987.1
and
987.2
? I know the lamps and fascias, front and rear are different. And I believe, but can't swear to it, that there were no sheet metal changes between the two. Can somebody confirm one way or another?
Thanks.
So will the .1 fenders bolt to the .2 or versa visa?? from what I remember the fenders are the same yes except the lips and lights are different on how they attach.
man, you got me scratching here… I would ask the guys at Getty design. I know they would know this since they make all those parts anyway
I have both parts catalogs. Same part numbers between the two (ex: front left is 98750303102).
Thanks for the replies,
Zuch, I think you came up with the definitive answer, same part number, same part.
Thanks-
I know the headlight shape changed with the
987.2
, but given the above post about the same part number for the fender, I guess the shape differed at the point where the headlight adjoined the plastic bumper cover. That was a smart way to do it, with no changes to metal stampings. I believe the same philosphy prevailed at the rear with the revised tailights on the
987.2
... the change was accommodated by a revised bumper cover.

If you think about it, it's a fairly standard change for a mid-cycle refresh. Carry over the multi-die, expensive to change sheet metal and revise the injection molded fascias, which require only one tool per.
The original question was predicated on the headlamp shape looking so different between the
987.1
and
987.2
that I was unsure if the fender had also been modified to enable the different lamp perimeters.
A clever face-lift indeed.
Getty claims they are not interchangeable… the headlights are the issue, and I agree with that…
Yup. Not interchangable. The
987.2
headlight shape is diffirent - not only where it meets the bumper.
