Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Used defender for my other cars but there seems to be a deal on this,
Leading evidence: 'Use defender' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill with techron' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Although I use top tier fuel, I still play on using this a couple of times a year.

93 all summer and one late fall tank fill with Techron before the last fill and storage.

Suggestion
It's been a while since I read it, but as I recall, Porsche recommended adding Techron 500 miles before an oil change.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I agree!
My own experience is that my c4s smokes on start up with cheap gas and runs like ****. If I use Sunoco 94, no smoke, runs great.
I only use Sunoco 94 unless Im desperate
I saw this episode and have been meaning to post this, so glad you did. I did not know what a TopTier gas was and completely missed that Maverik and Circle-K are not TopTier, but Costco is.
Porsche recognizes the benefit of Techron and published a tech bulletin on it. It's been a while since I read it, but as I recall, Porsche recommended adding Techron 500 miles before an oil change. I looked around for the pub because i don't want to start nasty web rumors. I was hoping to post it as my source.
I moved and miss my non ethanol 93. Used defender for my other cars but there seems to be a deal on this,

I remember there were a couple of different kinds of fuel system cleaner from chevron and wanted to make sure. Is this the one with the PEA?
Techron is PEA
Techron is a detergent and cleans deposits. It is not an octane booster. What I found most surprising in the OP's video is that he documents that it reduces cylinder wall wear. This was a bit of an eye-popper for me. We recognize the risk of bore scoring and here is a tool to help reduce the risk of that.
My plan is to always burn Top Tier gas and then I'll dump a bottle in before I do the Fall oil change when she goes into winter hibernation.
996x BMCHan you should do the opposite
Techron after hibernation more of a chance of sediment buildup then an oil change before summer of driving
because youll be driving more less of a chance for carbon build up
hopefully by doing some redline runs lol
So, I will offer a perspective from a daily driver's perspective. I actually thought that "Top Tier" was code for name-brand fuel. Due to this view I thought all fuels were the same. After watching Lake's video I have decided to try the "Top-Tier" fuel. I live in the San Fernando Valley and there is a 20 cent per gallon difference in cost per gallon, so it is not a trivial difference in cost. For the last four years (and 40k miles) I have been using regular (cheap) fuel. Based on Lake's recommendation, I am going to use Top Tier fuel. Hopefully it will help. I will report my experience here.
Here is Porsche’s logic. You’re running TopTier all of the time. The big dose needs to go through the engine, which is accomplished by 500 miles, aka two tanks of gas. But the dilution of the oil’s wear properties by PEA, means you want the PEA byproduct and what it scrubbed remaining in the oil for the least time possible.
I have been using the top-tier fuel (Chevron) now for 10 months and about 7k miles. There has been no discernable change to how the engine runs. I just got my first UOA and it seems the fuel dilution is a bit high (1.45). I have no idea what it was previously. I will try a PEA fuel treatment to see if it helps lower the fuel dilution. FWIW, I will continue to use the Chevron gasoline.
I've come to really love The Oil Geek. However, I missed this video. Thanks a bunch to the OP for posting. I had no clue about fuel additives from the pump. Have used Techron a few times back in the day. But figured much of the advertising about "additives" was just marketing hype. Apparently not!
And how nice to know Costco is supplying its members with Top Tier. That's what I try to use. That's what I filled up with on my Mt. Hamilton run Saturday. After watching this video, I'll be using Top Tier exclusively in the 911 for sure and will do my best for the other cars in the family.
Really good info. Thanks again!
