It will involve some plastic rivet destruction (replaced by metal screws on reasembly)..

I did something similar where I used black Plastidip to touchup the area.

I've read several threads where artist touch up paint was used on the climate control knobs, but that works for small imperfections.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That worked fine until I got to the center console, it looked like crap after I stripped it, I actually had to sand the center console.
Does anyone have a solution that addresses the peeling soft touch? The door trim is starting to look really bad. I've read several threads where artist touch up paint was used on the climate control knobs, but that works for small imperfections.
Any suggestions?

I repaired that same area as the window switches. I had read a thread on this site on how to repair interior surfaces using paint samples from either
Home Depot
or Lowe's.
If your ashtray is the same color as your door, then take the ashtray with you to the paint department. The sample is a matte finish latex.
The color match was perfect.
Good luck

That's a great idea! I'll give that a try.
I did something similar where I used black Plastidip to touchup the area. It didn't come out too well and the color didn't match.
Another thought I had was to just replace the door spear trim an OEM or carbon fiber version. I heard the part doesn't cost that much, less than $100. I just don't how involved it would be to remove the panel and door spear trim.
i just wonder what was
porsche
thinking when they sub out the parts..

had the same issue with their consuls. some killer sales person in a trade show...as a matter of fact gm also used these rubberized finished from 2006-2010 .. that rubberized finish was very popular in that time period..thank God they got rid of them.

This has to do with some European standards on using biodegradable components from what I heard.
Either case, just use a bit of rubbing alcohol and a tooth brush to remove the rubber layer. Same for radio knobs. Then you would never have peeling issues afterwards!
+1 Rubbing alcohol comes in different strengths. Look for one that is 75% at least. Soak a rag or paper towel and let it sit on the rubberized paint for a few minutes. It should rub off fairly easily after that. Repaint if desired.
Awesome tips guys! Can't wait to try rubbing alcohol. I didn't want to use anything strong like "Goof-Off the ultimate remover", which may potentially damage the plastic underneath. I've been scratching it off a little at a time using my fingernail while stopped at a stoplight. LOL
Use brake fluid to strip the soft touch paint.
Remove the trim piece and put it in your sink. Apply brake fluid to all the painted surfaces with a sponge and allow to sit for 10 minutes.
Go over the piece with a hair dryer for about 3 minutes and wet the trim piece with warm water. Then, the soft touch paint will just ball off with your thumb leaving shiny, unscratched plastic remaining.
You may just like the plastic. However, this will leave an unpainted surface to apply a new coat of rubberized paint for a more uniform finish.
There have been a number of threads concerning the door panel peeling - fixed by disassembling the panel and stripping and repainting the parts that had a soft finish on them with something more durable. It's a bit of a project, easy enough to do if you don't mind having the car off the road for some time. It will involve some plastic rivet destruction (replaced by metal screws on reasembly).. most people paint them the car's exterior color.
You could try vinyl wrap. I just did this a couple weeks ago. There’s a learning curve, so be patient. You still need to remove the old paint to have a smooth surface underneath. It’s easily reversible if you decide to go the paint route.
Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh - I wish I hadn't seen that. I'm guessing you had to disassemble the door card to cover that and then put it back in place (I seem to recall it's plastic welded in place in the card..)
No, it was done in-situ. Took me a few hours to do the first side, and them about an hour to finish the second side. It's not perfect, but I still like it.
Over the winter, I took all the trim off and stripped the paint. Since my interior is black, I could just leave it natural. That worked fine until I got to the center console, it looked like crap after I stripped it, I actually had to sand the center console. I was set to paint it but, decided to wrap it instead.
When I noticed the window switch panel bubbling, it was a natural choice to try to wrap it!
