This is ok for motorsport where large GT Cars will have a set of pads fitted most times it goes out but not really practical on a road car.

Have used Red dot on previous cars and I know Tarox do some reasonable stuff.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wont be long until my fronts will need replacing. What options other than o/e do I have? Fed up with the corrosion problem and wonder if solid discs or even slotted ones are available? TIA.

POST 2Original post

I can't think at the mo (maybe someone can help me) who makes the discs for Porsche...but you can buy the same "brand" i.e. same discs but not in a Porsche box for quite a bit less than the "originals". Don't down spec your brakes buddy - you will regret it one day.

POST 4Original post

Brake Discs Hi baptistsan, I have just replaced my discs as can be seen in the link posted above. Fitted them on Wednesday and after the correct bedding in procedure, they look and feel fantastic. Regarding solid or slotted discs, don't go near them. As a racing driver I have had alot of exposure to different types of discs and the problems you can get from them. Solid discs are old technology and cannot handle hard breaking due to an inability to expel heat. They are intented for slower cheaper cars and on a porsche you would get massive glazing and cracking of the pad surface leading to brake fade and possibly pad failure. Slotted disc are a more extreme form of the drilled disc and mainly used in motorsport (and most are drilled as well). The slot is used to remove debris and gas from in between the pad and the disc in high temp environments. However due to the very nature of the slot running across the pad, pad wear is greatly increased sometime by up to 20% compared to a drilled disc. This is ok for motorsport where large GT Cars will have a set of pads fitted most times it goes out but not really practical on a road car. In my experience, good quality drilled discs and a good set of pads is all that is needed on a road car. Hope that helps. Rob

POST 5Original post

Re: Brake Discs Great post Rob, cleared up a few questions I had about possibly getting slotted discs :thumb:

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies guys. Informative post Rob. Looks like I'll stick with the o/e discs then.

POST 7Original post

:thumb: stick with the factory units - but shop around as a full set of discs are not that expensive. Q: are your calipers working ok though?(look for uneven pad wear... inner vs outer) as this is the tell tail sign. If you have that issue get the calipers cleaned up and make sure the caliper pistons are all working fine too. A sticking caliper will incur/accelerate corrosion build-up on the disc face.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Calipers are fine. I was more concerned with the corrosion on the inner surfaces. Was not going to replace with cheaper stuff, was curious to know if there were better discs available. Have used Red dot on previous cars and I know Tarox do some reasonable stuff.
