Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi friends and well wishers
I am very upset with this unusual problem. please help me.
Its a 996 C4s auto 2003. I have located the leak. Its at the metal part of the cooling water tube return just where it crosses the rear suspension on the left side right next to the automatic gear box. this leak was caused by long term rubbing of the free end of the securing clamp from an adjoining cooling pipe hose, and puncturing a hole in it. Initially the leak was miniscule but after disturbing the puncture site its a lot worse and i am not driving the car. Is there a quick fix method or do I need a specialist to dismantle the whole of engine and gear box to change the whole of return tube, as this tube cannot be removed otherwise. the porsche mechanic tells me that its at least a 12 hr job obviously costing tons of money in labour although the tube itself costs only about 55 pounds or so. It appears that it was a manufacturing fault, will the porsche management own up to it.
to remove /refit the engine and gearbox as a whole unit is someting like 6 hours then another half hour to change pipe . opc will charge you the earth because they are quite an independent will not...
Hello
We have done 2 of these on 996 and is down to the cam-shaft phase sensor wire rubbing through a metal pipe !
We did last one for around £400 all in.
Mike
I had this on an earlier C2 a few years ago. If I remember correctly the car was 5 years old at the time.
Was an engine out job, bill was circa £1k from opc.
Had the work done then took it up with Porsche GB who agreed to refund me half the cost of the work as a "gesture of goodwill"
This was done on basis that work had been carried out at opc, the car had a full op service history and had been supplied through the network.
I would imagine a good independant would charge significantly less than opc so might be worth going down that route rather than all hastle though....
