Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Car went to the garage today and the diagnostics found a faulty fuel tank valve??? Can not remeber the fault code though. They have ordered the part and I need to book in to get it replaced. What does it do? what happens when it goes wrong?? thanks Jetbox

POST 2Original post

It is probably the tank venting valve/evaporative canister purge valve. If it fails, it makes the mixture slightly rich or lean, depending if it fails open or closed. This would give a fault code, but wouldn't trigger the Check Engine light (on a UK car).

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks. can the valve get noisy? clicking open and closed all the time??

POST 5Original post

And this shows when it operates, so that you know when to listen for it:

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks richard. I took the car back to opc for l/h radiator resistor and tapping noise from the left bank. The resistor is on order and they say the vent valve is causing the noise... Need to book the car in again to have these parts fitted under warranty. Will let you know if they cure the problem many thanks

POST 7Original post

Maybe I'm confused here, and there are two issues, but I doubt very much if the vent valve would cause a tapping noise from the left bank. It is located right at the top of the engine, and solenoids make a buzzing sound when they play up, not a tapping sound.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

well, the garage changed both fan resistors and the fuel vent valve... Success so far as the tapping noise appears to have stopped so far... Garage also enabled OBC at the same time so now have the outside temp display on the dash too. well pleased...............
