Three years ago I bought a 2007 Cayman S. The mods included a factory short shift kit, a throttle plenum and a tuned exhaust. The car is quick and responsive and a blast to drive, but when I go over a bump, the bottom feels like it is bottoming out. Not really bad, just uncomfortable for my wife (only she and I seem to notice it. Any suggestions?
Sport mode is off.
Also, the car has an Alcantra interior and the previous owner smoked. He said he had it professionally cleaned, but when I first get in the car I smell cigarette smoke - worse in summer. I have changed cabin filters and put an oxidizer in it for several days with no luck. I think I might need to steam the headliner, but I'm afraid I'll loosen the glue and it will sag. It is not bad, but I am hypersensitive to smoke. Any clues here?
I should have clarified, it is only the rear that is stiff
Getting cigarette smoke it out is quite a challenge. Every surface must be thoroughly cleaned firstly. Then, if I were you, I would try an ozone generator. Don't go crazy with it, just run it for 30 min windows/doors closed and then let it sit overnight. Google it for more info. They can be found for cheap on Amazon.
Best bet for the rear suspension is to find someone else with an identical car and play swap-a-roo or take it to a Porsche specialist. It will be very difficult over the internet to diagnose this one.
I would take it to a Porsche shop to check out the rear suspension. If you are truly bottoming out, they will be able to tell. You might need a damper replacement.
did you do a pre-purchase inspection? if not maybe its good to give the whole car a once over when you take it in to check for the absorber struts.
sounds like the absorbers are tired/leaking
+1 on the ozone treatment. you may need a few rounds spread across a few days.
After the ozone treatment (which it sounds as if you've tried) - Fabreeze, look for the unscented version. I've heard (no real personal knowledge) that it will even get the scent of a stripper off a guy's clothing after an evening of debauchery.
