Just wondering what's the reasoning behind the decision. Thanks.
This has been discussed in quite a few threads and recently here:

18" standard. Like the way they look and believe the performance will be good.
Wes,
I got the 19' just because I love the
Carrera
Classic look, and the low profile of the 19'.

I also went with the 19' Classics. I managed to convince (delude) myself that the 19's were a must have with
PASM
because the normal setting would be too soft with the 18's. I went with the Classics because (1) I like them, (2) they would be easy to clean compared to the SD's and (3) they were the next lightest to the SD's. My favorite picture of the Cayman thus far is the 3/4 side view of the Cobalt Blue with the Classics. The 19's and sport shift were the last options I added a couiple of days before I received my build date.

The 18 Cayman wheels remind me of the original Fuchs wheels with some updating via the
Carrera
GT cues. I've chosen Carrara white, so I will either get the 18s painted exterior color or black. I really like the way this wheel is painted leaving the spokes "natural" silver. I personally think the wheel sizes are close to bordering on the totally impractical if not crossing over into satire. I had 18 Turbo 3.6 style wheels (Gemballa) that took very little road irregularites to ruin and were very costly to refurbish. Unless you have very excellent roads (which we generally do have here in Florida) those 19's are likely to take a beating. If all out track performance is that crucial I think it makes sense to buy a second set of rubber with 19s for track days and stick with the 18s for daily use. If the 18s look like they don't fill the wheel wells it makes more sense to lower the car, which is another reason to pass on
PASM
and go after market springs or complete suspension upgrade with adjustable struts.
18's because I like the look and 19' SD's are hard to clean, expensive, and I could not get decent R-compounds for 19' wheels last season.
I stayed with the 18's for the look of them andbetter steering feedback.
18' for me - I like the look. Looked long and hard at the 19' since I like large wheels, but to me they are not as nice ( look, showing off the breaks, break cooling ) - I am hoping for some killer wheels on
tirerack
in a year or two ;-)
I just wish we could get wider
tires
that 265 on the rear. 295's would look awesome.

I originally ordered the 19' SD wheels, but after reading some of the articles posted here that were of the opinion that the standard wheel gave more feel, feedback, and fun, I changed my order to the standard 18' wheels. I am coming from an E46 M3 after having an E36 M3 and while the newer M3 is definitely faster, it doesn't have as much feel as the earlier car. To me the E46 was not as much fun on the track at VIR or CMP even though it could go faster. From what I've read the
Cayman S
should deliver what I'm missing in my current M3. Many thanks to K-man S. This website has been invaluable in helping in the decisions to order and how to order this car.

18'ers for me. I have to buy a second set of wheels anyhow, I can find more cost effective and lighter wheels that the option wheels, and of course I'll have more choices to match to the
tires
I will end up. Then, 18' will be the winter set /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/shades_smile.gif
