Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

but unfortunatly the car has knocking coming from the front suspension and through reading the last service sheet it suggests that the front strut mounts and bearings need replacing along with front suspension control arms please can someone advise me if the parts are really expensive if this is common and is it a really hard job to do because dont want to go to porsche as i know it will be silly money.i am really worried about it and really would appreciate some advise thanks paul.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all i have just brought a 996 carrera 4 s with a factory gt3 pack on the car and really pleased with it.The car draws looks where ever it goes especially being in guards red. but unfortunatly the car has knocking coming from the front suspension and through reading the last service sheet it suggests that the front strut mounts and bearings need replacing along with front suspension control arms please can someone advise me if the parts are really expensive if this is common and is it a really hard job to do because dont want to go to porsche as i know it will be silly money.i am really worried about it and really would appreciate some advise thanks paul.

POST 2Original post

Hi and welcome probably the lower control arms very common problem, they are relatively inexpensive c£200 lots of threads on here if you search on 'control' - Simon

POST 3Original post

Hello It could also just be suspension drop links or possibly the "tuning fork" suspension arm which are about £130 per arm...it most likeky wont be the bottom arm with the ball joint in as these tend to creak and wear more than knock in our experience. As for top mounts they will add to a very vauge and almost floaty feeling when driving as the rubber bonding breaks away from the metal body but again have not heard of them knocking either. Mike

POST 4Original post

Four things spring to mind: Anti-roll bar drop links (£40 each) Anti-roll bar bushes (£5 each) Strut top mounts (£50 each) Lower Wishbone/Control Arm (£200 each) Find yourself a good independent and get them to look at it. It won't cost you an arm and a leg in labour charges either.

POST 5Original post

About £400-500, including labour....for both sides.
