We've had this debate before, and I have had a puncture repaired before myself, but I really wouldn't recommend it...

However it is not 'illegal' to repair any tyres, and its cerytainly not illegal to use non N rated tyres on your Porsche

I could not get hold of the BS document as it costs £120 to download, but my local repairer also told me it wasn't legal to repair N rated tyres.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
Does anyone know of a decent tyre place to get a punture repair done in SW London? or thereabouts.... :?:
One of the rear tires is losing air...to the extent of i have to check and refill every three days...
Thanks,
H
Really......the tires are N rated, is there any place that can check? as it may be the valve, as im not 100% sure!
I ask, as the wheels have no kerbing (Touch evrything in sight!)
And i dont want to take it to one of my local places as they will not doubt damage the wheel in some way....even if it works out to be the valve.
If you mean a professional tyre-repairer, yes they can. If you mean an OPC then who knows what nonsense they might come up with.

look for posts by DSM2
i used kwik fit in wandsworth (in the middle of the one way system, next to the classic car garage) for stuff and the manager there (lawrie - large-ish guy with blonde/white hair) took great care of my wheels and saw to the job personally (guess he doesnt get many 911's in)
Read the posts with interest and no where did DSM2 quote from British Standard AU159f
stating that it was safe to repair N rated tyres given he claimed to help write the document!
He went on to say..." One final remark. Everything I have posted here is fact. I can and will prove it if someone makes it worth my while."
Hmmm
I could not get hold of the BS document as it costs £120 to download, but my local repairer also told me it wasn't legal to repair N rated tyres.

...and one of my local tyre specialists said it was illegal to fit non n-rated tyres to a Porsche. So who do you believe?
Why would any BS document specifically mention n-rated tyres? If they did, they'd have to include every such rating (Merc and BMW also have 'special' tyres), which may go in and out of production.
An n-rated tyre is a tyre - there's no magic about it.
Orangecurry,
I agree with you about "who do you believe" there are so many people out there claiming to be experts.
DMS2 didn't support his argument with facts, so leaves me sceptical.
I have also been told it was illegal to repair tyres rated H or above [ie 130mph+]
which includes N rated, also that sidewall repairs were a no no but it is all hearsay :?

However if was to take the car on a track or be travelling at high speeds, personally I would err on the side of caution
Cheers for the tip Wagonface.
Went Kwik fit in Streatham (Or St.Reatham as we like to call it) and great job done no damage for £17.50 all in.
And on top of all that made their day! one of the guys there (17y/o) was on cloud nine, as i let him drive car the in from the parking bay, to the workshop area. (a total of 10 feet!)
Thanks!
The general rule is that they will only repair tyres punctured in the centre of the tread, not even on the shoulder and no way on the sidewall.
Of course I'm sure anumber of the 'back st' tyre p[laces will do both to tyres they have removed and then sell them on as part worn.
However it is not 'illegal' to repair any tyres, and its cerytainly not illegal to use non N rated tyres on your Porsche

At the end of the day there is just a little rubber plug between you and a blow-out, and if you drive as the good Doctor intended that's a bit scary in my book. I actually did 170 mph with a front tyre puncture repair that I had forgotten about, and I wouldn't do it again!
