Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

have been driving my recently purchased 996 facelift lately and it got me wondering what i should be looking for as 'normal' readouts on the voltage, temperature and oil pressure dials? typical temperature once warmed up seems to be 80, voltage is around 14 (IIRC) and the oil pressure seems to go up and down depending upon speed (this seemed a bit odd to me, but maybe its correct?)

POST 2Original post

All sounds spot on to me! Oil pressure varies with engine temperature (high when cold, low when hot) and with revs (high with higher rpm)

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

cheers Asim... was a bit worried by the oil pressure- especially since i hadnt noticed it varying until sunday night. good to hear it sounds normal- i obviously hadnt been paying proper attention previously!

POST 4Original post

The water temp should run around the 80 Deg mark. My 996 TT runs at about 1mm above the 80 marker. Volts should indicate 2mm below the 14 volt line to match the 13.8 volt charge of the altenator. Oil Pressure will be between 4 and 5 bar at 3500rpm plus - maybe a tad higher on cold start up and about 1.5 bar on tickover and a bit more when cold. Plus the odd flicker if you have the normal dodgy Porsche pressure sender problem!!

POST 6Original post

mine too, don't forget RPM just under red line and MPH at the top!!!! TB

POST 8Original post

Great picture, is it for real. An ideal screensaver. Dave

POST 9Original post

Yep, for real - Autobahn, May 2006 Oh, and by the way, I heard you the first time... :hand: :floor:
