Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had watched a video and a guy was replaced all the lifters at 110k miles and that seems excessive So I wasn't sure if this was a common practice or not

I'm in the process of replacing the Vario Cam Pads on this 3.4 engine that's been sitting in storage for a few years.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm in the process of replacing the Vario Cam Pads on this 3.4 engine that's been sitting in storage for a few years. And I noticed that 23 out of the 24 lifters are soft and one is still pumped up solid is this Normal. This engine had around 90k and is very clean inside.

POST 2Original post

Oil will have bled out of the lifters into the oil gallery that feeds them, at those valves that have been closed during that time. Submerge them in fresh engine oil and compress/release them a couple of times to fill them with oil again. If they then remain solid, they are fine. Have you marked from which bore each came before removal?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks that's what I was thinking they are currently still on the engine in order. I've only removed one banks cam and valve cover at the moment I meant to say 11 out of 12 lifters. Back in the day when I built Spec Miata engines we would always pump up the lifters in a cup of fresh oil. Otherwise they would clatter for a solid 10-15 minutes. I had watched a video and a guy was replaced all the lifters at 110k miles and that seems excessive So I wasn't sure if this was a common practice or not
