Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have a checklist for dropping the engine and trans as a unit? I pretty much know what needs to be done, but I dont want to overlook something and inflict damage.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Uhm, 996....like the forum title says... 2000 C2

POST 5Original post

When I dropped mine I tried to write down each step I did, at least what I remembered to write down. 1999 c4 6spd

POST 6Original post

The Bentley 996 manual has pretty good coverage of engine removal. I would also strongly recommend going to You Tube and look op "Man in a Garage". Then look up his video of 5 years ago labeled "How to remove a Porsche 996 Engine Part 1". This is the first of a series on the subject. This guy has many very compressive (and funny) videos on rebuilding the 996 engine and other Porsche subjects.

POST 7Original post

If you go to the workshop manual thread, download the manual, it has the procedure. However, the manual that you can download only has the procedure with an automatic transmission. Do everything in that procedure and then there are three items that you need to do on the manual, disconnect shift cables, disconnect reverse light switch and unbolt clutch slave cylinder. You can find those details on pelican parts website. I ended up printing out the factory procedure and just marking those items off on the list as I went along and wrote the items above. I will use it as a checklist to install the engine also. You need to go to Harbor Freight and get the closed end crows foot wrenches for the hydraulic hose connections. And you will need two people to get them loose most likely.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
