Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Chap in Canada just finished said swap, got great power as these things seem to just generate obscene amounts of power and it all fits in neatly using an adapter plate to mount to the Porsche gear box.
Leading evidence: 'loss) and any purist views aside' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'loss) and any purist views aside' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Look away now purists:
So....I find myself with a 2003 996 turbo manual cabriolet. Cat N.
No engine or trans.!!!
Feeling a little funky.
Do I:
Plan A - restore to stock. Any tips on sourcing and cost of an engine/trans appreciated.
Plan B - do something a little different with a different Porsche engine. High powered N/a would be fun if it can be made to work.
Plan C - ev convert it
Plan D - ls swap it
I think these would all probably end up costing similar. Putting resale value aside (probably a loss) and any purist views aside. What are some of your reactions, experiences, views on some of these. What piques your interest?

Oh my....that is exactly the wavelength I am looking for.
I know "anything is possible"...but in the scheme of things...do we think work involved in putting this into a turbo body.....is crazy amount of work or just regular silly effort.
And in new but but brave/stupid fashion....would either component (body, engine, trans) force a choice on rwd Vs AWD? Or is that an open choice.

I have a 35k miles x50 996 turbo engine ready to drop in complete with all ancillaries and turbos available. Around 650hp. I did have the gearbox as well, but that has sold.

Converting a Turbo to RWD is not very difficult as I understand it.
That engine and gearbox is great at the right price. Best of luck with the route you decide on.
What character do you want the car to have, and how much money do you feel comfortable spending on the project?
Unless you are amazingly frugal you will make a loss on this, possibly a very significant one - Cat N, possibly highly non-standard means it will be hard to sell.
The easy (for a given value of easy) route is to buy Mistercorn's engine, find a gearbox and spanner it all together - and then you have a reliable, robust 650 bhp Porsche 911 that can be serviced by any Porsche garage and will sell for the most money out of any option you choose to pursue.
But that's no fun - so: remove the rear seats, then install two M96 engines sharing a common crank to make a flat 12, sitting above a RWD gearbox in the same arrangement as a Testerossa.
Honda K24 with a turbo. Chap in Canada just finished said swap, got great power as these things seem to just generate obscene amounts of power and it all fits in neatly using an adapter plate to mount to the Porsche gear box.
Channels called tuning by nick, might be worth a watch
I have a 996 turbo coupe with some fun mods.
If I go the "standard" way...I will almost certainly end up selling one of these. Though this is still pretty much plan A.
But the opportunity to have some fun and be different appeals and I may be willing to make more of a loss for that. Though ideally it would be on an impaired resale value rather than a greater investment upfront...so as long as the cost are similar anything funky considered.
Ev is more about the sheer learning experience and challenge of it...but out that aside.
Gas monkeys LS3 996 cab is fun...V8 noise, linear power
A gt3 engine would be cool....linear, revvy to differentiate from turbo

:what:
Buy a Nissan Leaf.
It does my head in all these people ruining classics with electric motors.
I don't mind folk wanting an EV, but if that's the case buy an EV. Using up stock of old interesting cars is crackers.
As ever it's up to the owner. It's their car and their cash, but I think they spend a fortune to end up with a worse thing.
The GT3 motor is a good shout. Same as turbo motor but without the turbos (no ***** Sherlock).
Or as Dammit says, stick a turbo lump back in. Easy power as Porsche intended and the easiest resale option. Well, as easy a 'story car" can be to sell.
