Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Fortunately I'm handy with the spanners, so I've replaced all the nuts, bolts, studs, heatshields for a fraction of the cost but that's not an option for most.

The dealer should have made sure the car was right and checked the car prior to sale.

It was £43000 and not a genuine S, I was going to replace the badge once I collected it.

£6k to get it all up and running sounds OK BUT the £6k should be viewed aginst the buying price.

I don't think the quote is that bad given that lots of reputable garages will only use genuine Porsche parts and they have to make a living.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Be aware of this car, I expect it will be listed on cars and bids or Silverstone Auctions soon. I purchased LF04XSC from a dealer and agreed the car would be recommissioned and serviced prior to collection as the car had only done 69 miles in 4 years. They sent LF04XSC to their appointed Porsche specialist who in carrying out the service work identified an number of expensive defective parts. The car had bad oil and exhaust leaks, seized turbos, corrosion to engine and exhaust parts, dangerous front brakes and inoperative air conditioning. Their director sent me a belittling and arrogant email stating that unless I covered the £6000+ necessary work they were cancelling the sale with no negotiation.
Strange invoice... what is a front brake pad fitting set, for £50?
They need 4, not 6 damping pads. I hope it was all genuine Porsche parts for those prices.
Either way, I'd argue that car was not in saleable condition if it needed all that work, and the dealer needs to sort it.
£6k to get it all up and running sounds OK BUT the £6k should be viewed aginst the buying price. As it is from a dealer the sale price was probably top money so maybe better off by walking away.
Yeah that all sounds like normal 996T stuff.
It would cost a fraction of that if you DIY'd it, but I know that's not the point. It should be sorted by the dealer.
I don't think the quote is that bad given that lots of reputable garages will only use genuine Porsche parts and they have to make a living.
I'm guessing the brake pad fitting kit is the slider pin, R Clip and spring plate that goes over pads.
That's small fry on that list though.
It wasn't for you and you'll never get a dealer to admit his car isn't as good as he says. It was a load of rubbish when he was bidding the last guy for it. Now he's selling it's the best example in the country.
You could ask him to trade it to you. No warranties etc. He may just want out of it now for about what it cost him. The risk is all on you then you. How risk averse are you?
It's a 996T at the end of the day. Plenty more for sale. :thumb:
I've not seen that before where a selling garage sends a car to a specialist (that identifies faults) and tries to pass it on to the purchaser
That list of faults will have occurred on the majority of 996t out there that have been used in the wet and salt, so once sorted the car will be tip top again.
If a 996t is driven year round by for example a doctor who just chugs around in it then all the nuts and bolts corrode over time and the waste gates seize up from lack of use. The car doesn't show any symptoms so our doctor will think his car is perfect cus it's still nice and shiny on top and appears to drive fine too. If it's then traded in at a garage who is not a Porsche specialist then you can see how this can happen. Most owners only notice this work needs doing when the exhaust starts to leak because there's no nut left, or the turbos are so corroded they start to leak.
Obviously work noted above costs a lot to sort but often the turbos need to be refurbished too so its possible that will be the case on this car too.
Fortunately I'm handy with the spanners, so I've replaced all the nuts, bolts, studs, heatshields for a fraction of the cost but that's not an option for most.
If a car dealer is going to sell one of these for top money then you'd expect this to have been sorted first in my opinion, it seems the car dealer has not done his homework and is now annoyed that his chunky mark up is going to dissappear!

The dealer asked his appointed specialist to stop work when the quote got to that figure. There was still other investigation needed, rear spoiler was in op at speed, roof fault when hard top fitted etc
I expected a car I was buying retail would made useable at his expense not mine. I didn't expect to buy a Porsche Turbo with ineffective turbos. The dealer should have made sure the car was right and checked the car prior to sale. The warranty offered was 3 months with a £1000 per problem claim limit so pretty much worthless.
They used pressure sake technique saying if I didn't buy LF04XSC they would be sending it to Silverstone Auction or putting it on Cars and Bids.
I expect they will not do the work and list it on one of those where it should make good money and somone will get stung.

The car was X50 and did have ceramics, they advertised and sold it to me as S spec.
