Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

Hi J70ste, It is the Ignition switch, the bit you actuallt need to replace is the actual switch - I think that is the bit with three black "legs" sticking out of it. https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt199_477_-cma81-cmo110/Porsche/996--911--1997-05/Ingintion-Switch/

POST 3Original post

As said above by Paulstevens - sounds like the actual switch itself. I had to replace mine a couple of months back. Was difficult to turn and sometimes wouldnt spring back to position 2, when starting the car. I used this one (its a part shared across VW, Audi and Porsche): Meyle [phone removed] Ignition-/Starter Switch. I bought it from Amazon, as it was £10 incl postage and arrived the next day: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006QY2LG0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 There are some guides online, it took me about 40 minutes. But its fiddly, working in a confined space.

Sounds a plan Kingb4 :thumb:

POST 6Original post

Be sure to buy the correct model year version - there are two versions of the switch for 996s (Note: the later switch does not act as an upgrade to earlier year models as the switch housing/steering column lock part is different... hence the different switch part numbers)
