Hey guys, I recently swapped out the old
battery
on my
987.2 Cayman
for a brand new one.
After doing so, the cruise control has decided to stop working… It was working well before, although there was no light on the dash when it was activated (I believe there should be one?).
Everything else on the car works as before after the new
battery
fit.
I’ve performed a
battery
system discharge as suggested on other posts, but no luck.
Any advice is much appreciated.
hanks!
Yes, on my 2010 there is a display indicator when it's on... so you should see one, I expect. If you weren't seeing one before, then maybe it's just a dead bulb?
Beyond that, what did you have for issues on the old
battery
? Was it very low? if so, the various modules could have gotten scrambled and lose their mind. The ideal solution is to get in there with
PIWIS
or something capable (
Foxwell
) to see what the codings are - some could have been lost with a very-low
battery
situation.
not sure if it can be fixed without a dealer/workshop visit as some have mentioned options going missing and need to get it "re-coded" or recognised again.
Anyone here ever used a fox well or equivalent to fix this?
Likely a dead bulb.
The old
battery
often struggled to turn over the engine after a few days in the cold.
I’ll look into the coding.
I’m not sure about the makeup of the instrument cluster and the mechanism for the individual warning/indicator displays that appear, such as your Hi-beam, Check Engine light, turn signals, cruise control, etc., on your
987.2
. But having had my instrument cluster out on my
987.1
, it doesn’t seem that there are actual bulbs that require replacing. The pic shows the internals of the cluster, no bulbs noticeable. If there is a fault in the cluster whereby the cruise control indicator is not illuminated it could be something on the circuit board itself which would need diagnosing. I sent mine out to ‘Speedometer Solutions’ when my Temperature gauge stopped functioning and Tom repaired it properly and returned it to me to reinstall. If you need more info, I can send you more details on how to reach him.
I believe that all the instrument cluster indicator lights illuminate for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on (key inserted and moved to the run possition). So don't start tearing into the cluster until checking that. Review the owner's manual to see exactly where that indicator is located and see if it lights-up.
Good advice. Correct that the display lights up like a Christmas tree. Every indicator light illuminates briefly so that is the place to start checking. If the Cruise Control indicator lights up when turning the ignition on that is the test for functionality. If it doesn’t light up when using the Cruise Control, but the Cruise Control works as intended then it would seem that a signal is not being sent from the
ECU
/
DME
to indicate that. So, problem wouldn’t be in the cluster but somewhere in the
Porsche
‘brain’.
