Just checked my drain holes using a snake and by pouring water in them. All good except for maybe one, need some advice/knowledge.
Two in the back of the rag top are good and I put the mesh over them.
Two behind the doors are both good as are one of the left side of the
battery
and one on the right.
However there is a drain hole right
next
to the
battery
on the left rear of it as you stand at the front and look at it, as opposed to the one several inches away toward the front of the car/
battery
.
The one back left has some staining around it, only one that had any debris near it, and a
battery
tray bolt near has rust. A number of wires come together, are wrapped, and sit right on top of their seeming drain hole.
I cannot snake it. Snake only goes about 6” in. I poured some water and it did not come out the bottom. Could be sitting on the skid plate underneath.
Is this in fact a drain hole?
The one with the blue arrows is a drain. It's a birds-mouth type rubber drain. You can pull it right up out of the cowl area. I'd then suggest throwing it away unless where you park is infested with rodents.
If you're poking through it - it ends up just above the inner fender liner (what you feel poking). The actual drain doesn't reach down that far. Removing it eliminates it's tendency to close up and cause floods. With the hole there, it's very obvious if it's open. There are 3 more of those drains if you explore the area carefully - the rubber part can be removed from all of them.
The one with the red arrow - battery pan drain. Looks good to me, no issues there. The rusted hardware isn't unusual if people let their battery go bad - or forget to hookup the battery vent line (you do have that hooked up right?)
BTW - please open the link shown at the top of the page (every page actually)
Posting Photos on Planet-9
- you did post a duplicate photo to your posting, I've removed that, and resized and replaced the huge original photo in the posting. Please take some care posting photos - it's annoying to wait for 2 huge photos to load, a lot of people won't bother and will never get to see your posting.
I'm also moving this out of 987 Chat and into 987 DIY... hang on..

I'm trying to clear my drains in a 987. I'm a bit confused on two things.
1) Where exactly are they? I've seen the diagram above, and also watched three YouTube videos, and there only seem to be six, ie four at the front near the
battery
and two at the rear under the panel that lifts when putting the roof up/down. Are there others? What is 7 on the diagram? Looks like it's in the windshield or something.
2) What is the drip tray/pans in the diagram? Do these fill with water or something? I don't understand why it's not simply just a hole through down to the ground? What do I need to do about this?
1) I believe #7 is the AC evaporator drain. Where remains a mystery to me, I've never seen it. It's probably up under the dash somewhere under the evaporator.
2) If you look at the rather byzantine drain system for the top - the top doesn't really have a secure seal where it meets the body. If you look at the design, the rear edge of the top is held in position when the top is up by two metal cables that stop it from being pulled up and forward. The clamshell then comes down and covers that edge. There is a rubber seal on the top that the clamshell seals on, but any significant water on the top can be driven past that seal. The water that gets past the seal drips/flows into the trough that is created with the rubberized fabric thing. That's open on both ends - where it drains into the recessed well that the top control mechanisms live (the pushrods, ball-joints, bell-cranks from the transmissions) - and the two drains you're concerned with #6. They aren't too well identified in the drawing. The other ones shown forward of those, #2 can be found at the very front of the body recess that the clamshell seats in. They are a small hole (3/16" or so) near the front of that recess. The ones marked #7 - drains for the two side openings.
Most of the drains empty to ground behind the rear wheel well liners. To see if they're working, a squeeze bottle of water is handy, then if the liner is removed you'll see water come out of the end of the drain.
The ones that usually
plug
up are the ones up around the
battery
(I'd just remove the rubber drains and leave the holes open - they'll never
plug
up..) due to leaves and tree-needles, and the ones at the bottom of the wells in the rear.
Porsche
makes a strainer sort of thingiemabob that goes into those drains, helping to keep them from plugging due to leaves and such. They're about $15/side for an absurdly small piece of shaped mesh. Someone will have the PN..

Sold individually, fits either side. I want to say I read somewhere that these were standard equipment at some point, but not for 987.1 -- maybe 987.2? I can't remember.
