Question: I would like to use the new fitting but I am not sure how to remove the old "compression fitting"?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I was hoping the fine folk on this forum could help me. On a 2007 CS, I am replacing the power steering hose from the steering rack to the junction/fitting under the drivers seat (see pic). In the pic, the part on the top left is fastened some how to the line coming from the pump/engine area, compression fitting? The new power steering line (from rack) came with a new "compression fitting". Question: I would like to use the new fitting but I am not sure how to remove the old "compression fitting"? Any help is greatly appreciated.

POST 2Original post

I solved the mystery, the fitting has an o ring, remove the o ring, then the fitting will slide back into the space the o ring used to occupy. Then the black cage will pull out, and the fitting will slide off the hose. Install the new fitting until you hear a click.

POST 3Original post

kudos to you diy'ers on these hoses .. just had mine replaced by the dealer .. cost me $1200 they had to remove the gas tank to get at the offending pieces

POST 4Original post

I know this post is 5 years old, but how did you remove the flexible part of the hose from the PS rack to the metal hose? Remove the gas tank? Surely there is a simpler way… Thanks, Stanley

POST 5Original post

I did not have to remove the gas tank. My power steering hose was on the drivers (left) side of the vehicle. And everything was accessible through the wheel well and taking off the under body panels. It wasn't too difficult, except figuring out how to disconnect the fitting in the above pic.

POST 6Original post

Thank you so much for writing this. I was about to give up after hours of struggling with it and then I found your post and sure enough as soon as you get the black cage out the quick disconnect actually does in fact disconnect quickly
