I know there are a lot of old threads but some have dead links and I am looking for any updated information now that our cars are getting older (and the customers have more years experience)
Does anyone have a link to a good non
PIWIS
method for filing a
PDK
to the correct fluid level?
Does anyone know of a code reader other than
PIWIS
that can make the correct settings (Fluid Cooling off, or something like that)
I'm assuming you're talking about the control circuit fluid - the special stuff.. the standard gear oil isn't anything special or hard to change.
The fluid fill process perhaps seems unnecessarily complex. Some people have done a drain and refill by measuring the amount of fluid that came out, then putting that amount of fluid back in. Sometimes that requires titling the transmission a bit to make the fill port higher - done by jacking up that side (safely - ramps are good).. The fluid should be filled cool at ambient temperature. There are some links to a video on YouTube buried here somewhere.. you might try a Google search of Planet-9, with "
PDK
fill" as the topic..
I can't show you the exact google syntax since it uses a colon, and our website interprets a ":" followed by a "P" as a smiley. that as a smiley.. but It would basically be:
pdk fill "site
lanet-9.com" <--You CAN copy and paste this into the Google search bar and it will work
- the first item returned is exactly what you're looking for.
Let us know when you find it.. are you going to do filter and fluid? (which means pan and fluid?)
Yes the
PDK
fluid, not the gear oil.
Saw the tilt to fill, but found little after the fact how well (or how long) the transmission ran.
Or at least multiple people saying that they were successful.
Also, if you are changing the pan and filter, you can not tell how much is retained by the filter.
Was hoping to find better/ other instructions.
One idea I had was to tilt the car beyond the point that fluid come out with the car running, ans slowly lower just till it shows.
Then refill and top up (running) at the same level.
Thought is doing the same not running could allow a false level since draining is likely to allow air into some passage ways and refilling (not runjing) would trap that air and give a false level.

drain/fill videos are at the bottom of the list

Excellent video. Thanks.
I wanted to make sure I had a method better than just replacing the amount that came out because I am going to replace the pan with the URO metal pan with the replaceable filter.
