My passenger side headlight washer "randomly" operates as I never use it. I think this is causing the fluid to go low (as I get the warning message time-to-time even though I NEVER used any fluids) and I don't see any leaks on the floor.
I think I am going to pull the fuse (B4) for now but wanted to see if anyone experienced this and/or where / how to fix as repairing may require removing the front bumper.
As usual, any inputs / advice will be greatly appreciated.
Sorta reminds me of a 50+ year old joke among British sports car owners..... "Lucas, the inventor of the intermittent wiper". See
Lucas jokes.
No kidding.....and this must be one of the Lucas inventions...
Apparently this is a EU regulation (and other countries?) of requiring Xenon / HID headlights (greater than 2k Lumen) having the washer....to be honest, I don't even know how to operate the washer (I think I only read the manual for the softtop / hardtop related matters).
I think I found the culprit and looks like the check valve connected to the headlight washer pump. While there was no puddle at all when parked in my garage, when I lifted the driver side, the fluid gushed out - see pic (below the passenger side headlight washer fluid pump).
When I looked through PET, it listed two different parts 997 628 204 00 AND 997 628 205 00 which obviously indicates LEFT / RIGHT (US Driver vs Passenger) although the diagram seems to indicate the "same" parts. Plus the diagram is rather confusing as I can't tell which is driver side vs. passenger side. Does anyone know which is the passenger side? #10 or #11? (I can only guess it may be #11, given the reservoir location but not 100% confident). Thanks!
Based on the diagram you provided, that would be my guess.
Thanks...just called Pelican and they have no idea - suggested I remove the bumper and check before ordering which I was hoping to avoid
Can you actually view the part you suspect you need to replace without removing the bumper cover? I ask because it could be the sprayer nozzle instead of the connector. Or maybe the hose itself?
I don't have a copy of the
987.1
PET, but the
987.2
PET's Headlight washer diagram is very similar. Oddly, there's no differentiation between L & R quick-connector - both are 997 628 204 00. However, the
987.2
nozzles are a different part number, so they might of made a design change allowing for a common connector.
Thanks for your input. I ended up removing the bumper and it was the pump. Even though I pulled the fuse the pump was leaking. The passenger side connector is different (angled) vs the driver side, at least for
987.1
. Gotta order parts, reinstall the grill from the inside, clean out the radiators and the condensers, maybe install an audi homelink module, etc...gotta look up how to remove the pump
