It's been on my lift having it's brakes and exhausts replaced so it's been hanging down for a bit.

Will go through it bit by bit starting with ARB and links first as they are I suspect the easiest.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

I did all of mine to try and solve and the last ones i did were the toe links which solved the problem.

No unique explicit quoted action; no causal link assigned

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've just started using my 98 996 C2 and whilst it's generally quite quiet it really creaks and groans at slow speed predominately from the OSR. It's been on my lift having it's brakes and exhausts replaced so it's been hanging down for a bit. I did a visual of the suspension whilst doing the other jobs and nothing smacked me in the face as tired at the time. Could anyone point me in the right direction on the most likely candidates for the creaks please? Also whilst I'm on how noisy are these engines briefly at cold start up? It quickly goes and there are no strange noises thereafter. TIA

POST 2Original post

Tuning forks, CG told me that they typically look ok but are usually the cause.

POST 3Original post

Arb's can also creek if not lubricated sufficiently

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, process of elimination then. Will go through it bit by bit starting with ARB and links first as they are I suspect the easiest.

POST 5Original post

One of my coffin arm eccentric bolts came loose. That made an awful creak.

POST 6Original post

The rubber bush on the inner end of one of my rear coffin arms delaminated - that made a creaky noise as the arm rotated around it over speed bumps etc.

POST 7Original post

Replaced coffin arms (on MOT as advisory), toe links and drop links; all rear creaking went away. Both the inner and the tuning fork connection rubber bushes were in quite poor condition on full inspection after removal. Had to cur both the eccentric bolts on both sides to get it all apart.

POST 8Original post

I did all of mine to try and solve and the last ones i did were the toe links which solved the problem. I also had a loose coolant pipe towards the front (around the foot well) and another one where they come up under the rear seats which were knocking

POST 9Original post

Thread resurrection, I have same issue as OP, did you get it sorted, what was the issue?

POST 10Original post

It will be old hardened deteriorating rubber somewhere in the suspension. At around 20 years old a refresh is probably well overdue. It has made mine like a new car to drive with a nice quiet and improved ride. As long as you don't need shocks as well (don't forget the top mounts), it is not horrifically expensive for the reward you get. Good source of after market suspension arms is Spyder Performance. If you want Porsche OE it is a little nearer horrifically expensive.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
