Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As per pic, MOT in one month. Dont really get the 75% middle rule, does this inner edge fall into the 12.5% allowed on either edge? Seems a shame to scrap them for this small amount of wear..

POST 2Original post

IMO that might get an advisory but shouldn't fail. The legal minimum is 1.6 mm across 75% of the centre section of the tyre. My XF got an advisory as although they had 3mm over most of the surface the inner shoulders were below 1mm. EDIT: How deep is the tread in that right hand side channel? To be honest the tyres look well past their best. How old are they?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Measurements are Outer 4mm Middle 3mm Inner 2.5mm/3mm NS OS respectively. I think the picture makes them worse than they are it was a bit of a mucky day, they are maybe 4/5 years old, 10000 miles?? will check later Thanks, Ray

POST 6Original post

Look good to me, depends if you get a jobs worth 😅

POST 7Original post

Right hand side is on the limit of the wear bar. That means time to change.

POST 8Original post

Not wanting to sound like a negative Nora but that tyre belongs in the bin. Yes the legal limit is 1.6mm but when they get down close to that they don't shift water anywhere near as good as they should. I'd be changing it to be honest mate but it's your choice obviously. I would not run that tyre on anything fruity.

POST 9Original post

Still life left, and still perfectly legal. People always say when tyres get low they don't move water and you could aqua plane. Well don't go fast through standing water then, and yes the tyres don't have quite as much grip in the wet as they get low, well drive more sensibly then to compensate. There's far too much throwing away of perfectly good stuff jn our society! Ps I find low grip tyres in the wet means you can have fun at low speed!. When did you last have your tracking checked as inner wear on the front could be an alignment problem? Mac

POST 10Original post

Loads o life left in that yet and yes it will easily pass an MOT.

POST 11Original post

Is that a nail roughly in the center of the tyre? Its hard to tell as it also looks like a small slug :dont know:

POST 12Original post

Drive more carefully to compensate for your tyres, or slide about for more fun. Excellent  I'm obviously out on my own on this one, and gladly. :thumb:

POST 14Original post

No its not. Its impossible to tell how much is left on from a photo but that is clearly not on the wear bar. As the op has stated: Measurements are Outer 4mm Middle 3mm Inner 2.5mm/3mm NS OS respectively.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all your varied responses. Checked the service history, these tyres were fitted in 2018 now done 10,000 miles as I thought. Toe and alignment checked at same time. I was under the impression 996 do tend to scrub the inners edge due to suspension set-up, is my car behaving differently to what you would expect after 10k? On a related matter N rated replacements (seem thin on the ground ATM) or same thing non-N rated. The rear are Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (N3 I think) cheers
