Im split between the 996 GT3 and Carrera II wheels, on one hand the GT3 look the best IMO and you can run 235/295 tyres.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I'm considering a '99 C2 that has the solid 18" Turbo Twist wheels. What other OEM wheels are available? I' would like to go with a lighter set. Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

5-spoke Carrera II wheels are what you're after.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello vitaminC, Are those the MY02 wheels? Thanks for your reply!

POST 4Original post

I believe that is correct. Bonus: they are also the best looking wheel for the narrow body 996.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! I am considering those as well as the 18" GT3 wheels.

POST 6Original post

Im split between the 996 GT3 and Carrera II wheels, on one hand the GT3 look the best IMO and you can run 235/295 tyres. On the other keeping the Carrera IIs make the car factory original... My car has an aerokit II on it as well. Best of luck which ever you go with!

POST 7Original post

I have three sets of MY02 Carrera wheels that I use on my track car. They are light, strong and fairly easy to find.

POST 8Original post

They are hard to beat and look awesome too

POST 10Original post

Carrera III also come in 18" but slightly different offset, but many have used them with no problems.

POST 11Original post

I had Carrera IIIs for awhile, the fronts need spaces or they sit too far until the front wheel wells. Rear were perfect.

POST 12Original post

I hate the offset of the 5 spoke wheels... I am running 285 Rears and still think I could fit a 10mm spacer. Other than that, I only have them due to weight savings over twists.

POST 13Original post

I agree even the stock Carrera IIs could do with spacers. Anyone have weight figures on Carrera IIs vs GT3 mk2?

POST 14Original post

GT3 wheels are some of the heaviest OEM 996 wheels made. If you're ok with 19's the Lobster Forks are pretty darn light. People either love em or hate em.

POST 15Original post

Weight info on GT3 MK2: Rear with tyres: 25.62 kgs (56.5 pounds) Front with tyres: 21.77 kgs (48 pounds) Rear without tyres: 12.92 kgs (28.5 pounds) Front without tyres: 11.43 kgs (25.2 pounds) Info came from here: http://sharkwerks.com/porsche/996-ca...40-wheels.html Don't have any figures for Carrera IIs but i'd be interested in knowing if anyone did have them. I remember seeing a matrix of wheel weights somewhere.

POST 16Original post

Carrera II's are 20/22lbs. I think Carrera III are several lbs heavier.

POST 17Original post

This is a timely post. Replacing the 18" twists on my car is going to be high on the todo list once the maintenance items are complete. Right now the MY02 wheels are highest on the list, but have been off and on searching for other alternatives. OZ Alleggerita wheels are 18lbs/19lbs F/R, so lighter than MY02s, and reasonably priced. Not a big fan of the look, though. From a previous thread on this topic:

POST 18Original post

I like the Allegrita's as well. Just picked up a cheap set of 8.5"F/12"R for some experimentation.

POST 19Original post

Here is the list of different Porsche wheels and weights: http://www.944racing.de/wheelweights.php As you can see the Carrera II is an excellent choise, I bought a set myself for my 99 C4

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 13974280

Thats the one I was looking for So I guess GT3 vs 5 spoke Carrera IIs: Front: (8.5") 11.43 kgs vs. (8") 9.3 kg Rear: (11") 12.92 kgs vs (10") 10.3 kg

both a great look AND lightweight! semi-OT - how does one differentiate the hollow spoke vs solid spoke turbo twist wheels?

POST 24Original post

By looking at the backside of them. But I don't think the hollow spokes are available in narrow body fitment for the rears.

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 13977409

Thanks, didn't realise they were "19s but just saw the 18" option too. They do look good!

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 13978138

HI there sir, Yes, they are available for narrow body (HOLLOW), we do stock at least one set. Also the 996-Turbo twist is a design is available for narrow body (we have one set of those also in-stock) however I don't recall ever seeing a set of narrow hollow 996-Turbo design.

POST 27Original post

Are you looking for an 18" option only? We are limited in stock right now but the 18" RS-808 (Satin black) is a good consideration. 18-lbs front 19-lbs rear http://wheeldynamics.com/porsche-cars.html

POST 28Original post

An other option is the GT3 Replica wheels. . . . Sizes offered: Front: 18x8.5 (et. 52) @ 21-lbs Rear 18x10 (et. 54) @ 23-lbs. SILVER FINISH ONLY (custom finishing is available) These are still lighter than the solid spoke wist wheels. POST 33Original post

Does anyone know where I can source a replacement wheel for my 99 996? I'll post a pic of what i have . They are telling me there is a leak from where the spokes stop I don't know if these wheel are in 2 pieces and I can replace part or I have to replace all any suggestions? Thanks! ave

POST 34Original post

Quotes source post: 13987343

They are 2-piece wheels made by BBS for Porsche. See if you can find a shop near you with experience assembling 2-piece wheels, probably needs to be resealed. BBS in Atlanta offered a rebuilding service, don't know if they still do.

POST 35Original post

Quotes source post: 13987343

Those are 996 sport design wheels.

POST 36Original post

Quotes source post: 13987343

Hi there, Since they are 2-pc wheels there is no seal to repair or replace, it's a mystery why they would tell you that it's s spoke that is leaking.... We can repair it for you, call us for a quote. Thanks, [phone removed]
