Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had the oil/filter changed by an independent at 5k miles and now have 8500 miles.

This morning I check the oil level on the CS, start the engine, and then there is this message on the gauge cluster that reads " Engine service in 30 days".

I think they reset it because when I got into the car the radio changed stations to one with static.

I want to follow the recommended service schedule in the manual.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

I recently took my car in for the 2 yr inspection - I told them I didn't need the oil/filter change, since I did it myself in November, but I did have a CEL that I wanted them to check.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The service reminder was apparently set the day I bought my CS (1/10/06). The first reminder said "Service in 21 days", and it counted on down from there each time I started the car. I had the 2-year/20k mile service (whichever comes first) service at the dealer exactly two years from purchase day, with about 17k miles on the odo. It had already had several oil/filter changes and other services done at independent shops.
Amazin bought his CS a day or two after I did and he said that he hasn't seen a service reminder yet, so maybe his wasn't set before purchase.
Mine just came on a few days ago.....I believe stating 29 days until service. This is just about 2 years to the day I picked mine up.
Hope there is a way to reset without a trip to the dealer. Will an OBDII code reader do it?
I assume that it is programmed to come on 2 years from the sale date (or last service) - mine came due 2 yrs to the day from original date of sale.
FYI: You can use the Durametric software to reset the reminder - don't know if there's another built-in hack.
I just called the dealer here and he gave me a whopping $500 to do the 2 year inspection and service
. This includes resetting the message display. I inquired about the sport shifter and he said $700 for everything (parts and labor). I just want a "reset".....he said "no we have to do everything". What a rip off.
I recently took my car in for the 2 yr inspection - I told them I didn't need the oil/filter change, since I did it myself in November, but I did have a CEL that I wanted them to check. I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't charge me anything for the inspection (and washed the car to boot).
They also reprogrammed my key delay for free, but wouldn't/couldn't disable my seat belt chime or the brake/throttle cut-off. I guess YMMV.
I've started getting the service reminder, now at 25 days. I had the oil/filter changed by an independent at 5k miles and now have 8500 miles. So, I'm not getting another change yet. My CS will be a year old in June and while the first "service", according to the manual is 2 years/20k miles, I recall the dealer telling me that they would "like to see the car once every year." So, my guess is that the dealer can set this reminder for whatever they want as well as reset it. I'll gofor the reset and that's it. The car is running great and I really don't want anyone screwing with it unnecessarily.
I just got a service reminder today also. It said service in 29 days. I found it weird since I have less than 11K miles on the odo, and the car was delivered to the dealer from the factory in the last week of May 2007. I recently had my car at Champion Porsche to replace two tires using my wheel and tire insurance. I think they reset the reminder to get me back in. I never got a good feeling from that dealership. I think they reset it because when I got into the car the radio changed stations to one with static. I have a Sirius tuner installed and keep it on one station. Why it would be on a different station? I think when they hooked up the computer it did it.
My question is ...I'm leasing the car with no intentions to purchase it. I want to follow the recommended service schedule in the manual. Would I have any problems when I turn the car back in at the end of the lease if I ignore the reminder, and follow the schedule in the manual?
Thanks
If they had reset the reminder for some reason, then it shouldn't come on for another 2 years, not sooner than expected. I would call the service manager and ask why the reminder is coming on now ( and have them reset it).
The recommended 1st service is at 20K miles
or
2 years, which ever comes first (I'm assuming you have an '07); as long as you follow that, I don't think they can fault you.
Engine service in 30 days?
This morning I check the oil level on the CS, start the engine, and then there is this message on the gauge cluster that reads " Engine service in 30 days". The car only has 5200 miles in 11 months and it was at the dealer about 2 months ago for some warrantee work including a look at the oil level sening unit. Has anyone gotten this message before? What does it mean?
I think I'm calling the dealer on Monday.
Yes, a lot of us have gotten the 2-year service reminder that way. The car will probably count down the days until service each time you start the car. If you do a search, you may be able to find more than the one scheduled service post listed under Similar Threads below ("Service in 16 days").
Ok I have a service in 28 days pop up but my car has 3300 miles on it and I bought the car in December 2007. The car was built in March 2007 so its no where near the 2 year mark why is it telling me to service the car? I hope the dealer wont charge me to get it reset.
