Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. There was an amazing amount of debris between the condensers and rads, so got in there with an air gun and gave them a good clean...very happy that I've cracked that job early on in my ownership.
Leading evidence: 'Use adhesive...i'll have' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'first time i was doing anything' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean ...very happy' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

As it was the first time I was doing anything to the car, I was particularly careful, so it would be considerably quicker for anyone who has had their bumper off previously.

I covered the top of the axle stands with folded terry towelling cleaning cloths to avoid damaging the anti corrosion paint on the underside

I had been running at slightly over 80 on the temp and in my test post clean I was back on 80 so the cooling system is running more efficiently too!!

I did spend quite a bit of time cleaning the screws (which I didn't add to the timings above) with a wire brush, but didn't think to paint them...for next time!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thanks. As it was the first time I'd taken the bumper off, having only bought the car 2 weeks ago, I was a little nervous about getting it back on again, but it was easier than I thought it would be. There was an amazing amount of debris between the condensers and rads, so got in there with an air gun and gave them a good clean...very happy that I've cracked that job early on in my ownership.
A bit longer than stated in the Tech Articles, but that was probably because I was being very careful with every screw:
45-60 mins to remove the bumper.
30 mins to remove the condenser screws and clean out all the debris with a brush and compressor air gun.
30 mins to make the cardboard stencils.
45-60 mins to mark and cut out the mesh.
30 mins to glue the mesh into the vents.
Left to dry overnight.
20 - 30 mins to replace the bumper.
Between 3hrs 20min and 4hrs for the whole job, although there were lots of tea breaks and house chores in between!!!...
As it was the first time I was doing anything to the car, I was particularly careful, so it would be considerably quicker for anyone who has had their bumper off previously.
My wife often tells me I have OCD!!! I did spend quite a bit of time cleaning the screws (which I didn't add to the timings above) with a wire brush, but didn't think to paint them...for next time!
looks good. Couple of questions, did you get the car up on axle stands when removing the front ? Did you just use adhesive for the grills or did you use any self tappers ?
Where do you live? I've been off work this week, so have been able to crack the job without the missus getting annoyed that I'm 'playing with my toy'! Back to work on Monday.
My drive is on a slight slope, so with the rear of the car downhill I could get underneath the front skirt to remove the screws. I've got axle stands, and would have used them if needed, but managed to get under without them. Note: in Min's Tech Article he says you should turn the steering to one side in order to make it easier to get to the screws in the wheel arches. I found that I had to turn the steering on full lock one way to remove a far inner screw in the arch, then turn the wheels the other way to do the same to the other side. The space between the wheel and arch is too small to get your hand in when the wheel is turned inwards.
I just used adhesive...I'll have to see how long it lasts!!!
Should cut the mustard.

I had my car on axle stands as the wheels were away being refurbed. The additional height made it far easier to see the screws under the front and it was obviously easier to sort the wheel arch liners fasteners with the wheels out of the way
The adhesive I used was
urefixII
no self tapper just a few cable ties to hold the mesh in place till the adhesive went off
Just in the middle of this job myself, bumper has been lying in my conservatory over night with the PU sealant bonding the mesh on. I ended up getting 3 panels of mesh from eBay for £25 delivered and some tiger PU sealant for about £6 so a cheap job. Quite easy to do and plenty of guides available. I find I have to jack the car up and remove the front wheels to get the bumper off.
Also, my rads were covered in road muck so got a good clean. I had been running at slightly over 80 on the temp and in my test post clean I was back on 80 so the cooling system is running more efficiently too!!
Spend so much time with my 2.4S up on axle stands, I've not tackled jacking the turbo up yet so havn't even got on my knees to look . So, being a new turbo owner .. where abouts are you jacking from at the front & where are you placing the axle stands ?
James I jacked the car using the rear jacking point and was able to place the axle stand on the front jacking point before lowering the jack again so the rear wheel was back in contact with the ground. It's possible to do both sides at the same time like this.
I covered the top of the axle stands with folded terry towelling cleaning cloths to avoid damaging the anti corrosion paint on the underside
The front jacking points are just behind the wheel arch. On my car there are actually arrows on the side skirts which are in line with the jacking points. I've got a low trolley jack, so was just able to get it under the skirts and to the jacking points. Axle stands then under the axles.
BTW - If anyone is looking to do this job I have enough black mesh left to fill all 3 sections - £15.00 delivered to UK address - let me know.
Just re-fitted my bumper, all back together nicely and looking factory much like the example at the start of this thread - see ya later leaves
