The red/white wire to the amp and CD changer is also live, again tested with the car locked and left for 30+mins, but I think this should be the switched live / wake signal and should therefore be off when the radios off.

Just a thought, if I were to pop pin C4 out of the back of my HU and repeat the draw down test, would that isolate if the issue was the HU or the amp?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My late 2004 996 C4S is suffering a battery drain that I have traced to fuse D9 'Sound package'. The amp in the frunk seems to be permanently on, as even when the car has been locked for 30+mins the fan is running in it / it is warm to touch. The red/white wire to the amp and CD changer is also live, again tested with the car locked and left for 30+mins, but I think this should be the switched live / wake signal and should therefore be off when the radios off. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 2004 with MOST / Bose / PCM or has anyone come across this issue before? Thanks in advance!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you! That's brilliant - exactly what I was looking for. What makes you think the amp is at fault rather than the HU? I'd figured the Wake Up Diagnosis vs/cp157 red/white wire should turn on and off with the head unit, and in turn switch the amp? This wires permanently live on my car but I don't know if that's correct or not. Does it go to anything else besides the CD changer and amp? Again, Thank you for your help!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just a thought, if I were to pop pin C4 out of the back of my HU and repeat the draw down test, would that isolate if the issue was the HU or the amp? I could be barking up the wrong tree here though!

POST 5Original post

My answer was based on experience .. i've seen amps cause this but never a PCM so far .. It's still possible though as is anything but logically if the pcm is unplugged and it is the wake up line then the battery drain will go .

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, thats great. Time permitting, I'll pull the PCM out this weekend and see what effect that has on the battery drain / amp. Will report back!
