I have been looking at changing 996 for a 997 C2 S - about 2006/7.

As you have changed from a Turbo to the Cayman I thought that you would be well placed to offer an opinion.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I have a 54 plate 996 C2 which has just covered 38k miles. The car is in great condition but I have a problem with the tip selector.
It happened about a year ago for the first time.
When you engage R you get no reversing lights or beep - in addition the rear park sensors don't work.
The rest of the functions are fine.
When it was looked at last year it was found to have half of an old credit card stuck down there,
In additon the garage said that the slider was not making a strong contact. They adjusted this and it has worked since then.
Do I have to get a new part or will we be able to adjust again - is it a job that I can do?
Any help or information would be much appreciated.
Regards
Steve
On facelift 996s, the reversing light switch is built in to the multi-function switch at the bottom of the selector lever. You can buy the complete multi-function switch (about £130) and swap it over. (Part no: 996.613.212.10) I don't know what 'adjustments they made to the slider' as there isn't anything that you can adjust as far as I am aware.
Hi Richard - many thanks once again.
I have been looking at changing 996 for a 997 C2 S - about 2006/7.
However I have also been told that the Cayman S would also be worth a look as for the same money I could get a later model. As you have changed from a Turbo to the Cayman I thought that you would be well placed to offer an opinion.

Steve
My advice would be to drive both, and see what you prefer. The 997C2S is a great car, as is the Cayman S, but they have a different feel. I have driven my nephew's C2S a few times, and have been thoroughly impressed, but when I drove a Cayman S, I loved the way if felt.
In terms of depreciation, you would probably lose slightly less on the C2S as it will be on a flatter part of the depreciatin curve than a newer Cayman S. But then there is the feel-good factor of driving a newer car.....
