I went for an after market solution, fixed back bucket seats (Cobra Nogaros) which can be fitted lower in the car & that offer me more back support - it all depends on your budget as to how you try & address your issue & whether you need proper access to the rear seat area (I've now removed my rear seats).

I changed my factory sports seats for other reasons...I struggle with lower back pain as I'm just over 6ft tall & broad shouldered & the seats gave me lower back ache.

You can replace the 996 seats with a set from a0 987/997 which some say are more comfortable, & sit a little lower.

Or perhaps they just made them better by changing the foam?

Heating doesn't add any height to the seat and the fully electric seats sit a couple of centimetres higher at their lowest setting when compared to the standard seats due to the extra motors and different rails.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 996 C2 with the standard seats and find the driving position a bit too high. I like to sit as low as possible in a car and even on its lowest setting, I feel a bit perched up.
Any solutions or would it be a case of going for a different seat?
Following for similar ideas.
I feel too high and close to the wheel in my 996.2 Turbo, but seating position was fine in my 996.1 C2.
The turbo has manual slide heated seats, whereas the C2 had fully electric non heated, I wonder if that makes the difference? :?
To answer your question though: I suspect you'll need an aftermarket seat with either fixed mounts or aftermarket sliding mounts.
There are a few things you could do just do a search in this forum for XSU as there are a few posts. XSU is a thinner seat sponge I bought from my OPC. Seat type also makes a difference.
Does anyone know the correct XSU code for the 996.1 Sports Seats.
Just reading some other posts and I think it is the seat back that causes me issues as the lower part seems to push me forward unless you have it very upright.
The codes in the parts manual seem to refer to 02 onwards for IXSU
Part 7 996 521 535 05 Foam part backrest 02- IXSU
Part 8 996 521 539 00 Foam part backrest cushion 02- IXSU /M342
Will 02 onwards parts fit an 01 seat?
Referring to your post here. Not sure if the seats you bought were 996.1 or .2

From what I can work out, the shells are the same from 00 onwards but maybe the covers changed in 02 which dictates which foam you use? Or perhaps they just made them better by changing the foam?
Thanks
OP, the type of seat that Porsche makes has significant 'gubbins" underneath it & extra padding/springing can make the difference in seat height/position.

Thanks all. Yes I need access to the rear as it is the default family car. The seats don't seem to offer me much in the way of lower back support either so I find myself slouching in them which isn't good.
I am only 5'9" so not tall!

If you search the forums you should find some pics & more details.

My car had these fitted by a previous owners,(it's the 911v car mentioned in the 2nd thread above).
FWIW I think they do lift the interior, & the curved stitching pattern harks back to designs from the later air cooled cars.
That's odd. Heating doesn't add any height to the seat and the fully electric seats sit a couple of centimetres higher at their lowest setting when compared to the standard seats due to the extra motors and different rails.
I went from:
Fully electric wing back/sports buckets - sat far too high with little lateral support
Standard part electrics - Sat low enough but still rubbish bolsters and back rest
997 standard part electric - Go so low I don't even put them fully down. Better support and just generally a much better seat. (think mine might actually be 987 seats)
This is a seat I'm considering, I think they look great. Can you share what hardware you used to install them? I've seen a couple of posts on rennlist where they've used brey krause side mounts and (I think) standard 996 runners/sliders. With the seat slid fully forward how much space is there for rear access? Last question, did you have them trimmed by cobra or a third party?
I have the mounts that Cobra supply - they also trimmed the seats for me to match as closely as possible my existing trim (I actually now have a spare set of centre cushions in leather as well in case I want the more grown up look). If you PM me, I'll get the tape measure out to check the gap you asked about.
For what it's worth - I had terrible thigh/leg ache from the stock comfort seats in my 996 - which disappeared when I switched to the 996 sport seats.
Ironic really.
I've just picked up a set of 997 sports seats (thanks HSC911) to try them too - not cheap at all but might be better again.
